Smith and Muncy Hot, Dodgers Sweep Mets

Will Smith and Max Muncy are red hot as they helped power the Los Angeles Dodgers past the New York Mets for their first sweep of the Mets since 2018. During the series, Smith went 4-for-12 with three home runs, knocked in seven runs, scored three runs, and walked once. Muncy went 5-for-13 with two home runs, a double, batted in six runs, scored five runs, and walked once.

Smith and Muncy Red Hot

Smith was a thorn in the paw of the Mets with clutch hitting throughout the series. In game one, he notched a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Trea Turner from third base. Smith eventually sealed the fate of the game with a 10th inning two-run home run to score Max Muncy. This put the Dodgers up 6-4 and they eventually won the game 6-5. In game two, the Dodgers were down 1-0 in the seventh when Smith launched a solo homer to center field to tie the game. The Dodgers eventually won the game in the 10th when Cody Bellinger doubled on a grounder to right field to score Corey Seager. The final score was 2-1.

The final game of the series between the Mets and the Dodgers became sort of a Home Run Derby, beginning in the first inning. Justin Turner, returning from a groin injury, launched a two-run home run with Trea Turner on base to open the scoring. Later in the inning, who else but Will Smith hit his third home run of the series, a solo shot, to make the score 3-0 in the first inning. In the second inning, Max Muncy hit a two-run home run with Trea Turner on base. In the sixth inning, Muncy again hit a two-run home run with Trea Turner on base. Both home runs were hit almost to the same spot in left-center field.

In the eighth inning, Will Smith hit a two-run single. In the ninth inning, Matt Beaty hit a two-run blast off of position player Brandon Drury. Beaty’s blast ended the power display by the Dodgers. The Dodgers won the game 14-4.

What Is Next for the Dodgers

The Dodgers return home Monday for a seven-game homestand beginning with the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Dodgers have not yet announced a pitcher for Monday’s game. The Pirates will have Steven Brault on the mound Monday. Brault has pitched to a 3.00 ERA with eight strikeouts in nine innings. His WHIP is 1.00, but he has only started two games this season. After facing the Pirates for three games, the Dodgers will face the Mets for four games at home.
