The great thing about baseball is that there is always tomorrow. Whether you win or lose, you can always count on being on the field the next day, barring injuries or inclement weather in some areas. This sentiment is important for fans to keep in mind after they saw their Texas Rangers swept by the Chicago White Sox this past weekend at Guaranteed Rate Field in Chicago, Illinois. The three-game series seemed to last forever for the Rangers.
One can only imagine how much they’re looking forward to getting back home. They start another series against the Los Angeles Angels on Monday evening at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas at 7:05 PM CDT. Here is a recap of this weekend’s series.
Game One
Friday night’s series opener was a close one. The final score was 9-7 in favor of the White Sox, but the Rangers managed to make it interesting. They scored two runs in the fourth inning. Following that, they scored three runs in the the fifth and one run in the sixth. The Rangers would not score again until the top of the ninth when outfielder Adolís Garcia hit a three-run home run off Chicago reliever Liam Hendriks. The Rangers just couldn’t get it done on Friday, despite the late spark. Right-hander Kyle Cody took the loss, bringing his record to 0-2 on the season.
Game Two
On Saturday night, the Rangers were able to keep things close once again. They lost by a final score of 2-1 and their pitching looked a lot stronger. Designated Hitter Willie Calhoun provided the Rangers only run in the ninth inning. He blasted a solo home run, this one also at the hands of Hendriks. It brought some much needed excitement to the Rangers’ dugout, but it ultimately wasn’t enough to spell victory for them.
Kyle Gibson made the start for Texas. In his six innings of work, he allowed only one earned run on a wild pitch. Righty John King came on to replace Gibson in the seventh. He also gave up just one earned run and took the loss, bringing his record to 2-1 on the year. It also brought the Texas Rangers one game closer to being swept.
Game Three
It was more bad news for the Rangers in the matinee finale on Sunday afternoon. Just hours after learning that first baseman Ronald Guzman was going to be out for the rest of the year following surgery on his right knee, the Rangers fell to Chicago once again by a final score of 8-4.
One bright spot of the game was when right-fielder Joey Gallo continued his streak of getting on base safely. He did so by getting two hits and scoring one run. Gallo has now reached base safely in 22 straight games. However, he has now gone 83 plate appearances without a home run.
Left-fielder David Dahl provided the spark today as he hit a solo home run off Chicago starter Michael Kopech with one out in the second inning. On the mound, Rangers right-hander Kohei Arihara struggled. He went only two and two-third innings. He gave up six hits, five earned runs, and walked four. The loss puts his record at 2-2.
It wasn’t the weekend for the Texas Rangers, as they were swept by the White Sox. Here’s to tomorrow.
