Astros Survive High-Scoring Affair vs Athletics

Astros Athletics

Astros 10, Athletics 5

Pitching was not very sharp in Game One as the Houston Astros slugged their way past the Oakland Athletics 10-5. While the final score may seem a little lopsided, this was a back-and-forth game until the sixth inning. George Springer‘s four hits and Carlos Correa‘s two home runs and four RBI powered the Astros to victory in a homer filled slugfest.

Runs Aplenty

Oakland got the scoring started with a two run home run by Khris Davis in the second. In the following inning, Sean Murphy went deep with nobody on to give the A’s a 3-0 lead. The Astros took a punch, but followed in the top of the fourth with a solo home run by Alex Bregman and a two run shot by Correa to tie the game at three runs a piece. In the bottom of the fourth, the A’s answered with a Matt Olson homer to bring the score to 4-3. Oakland added another run on a Mark Canha sac fly, bringing the score to 5-3. After that, it was all Astros.

Houston scored four in the sixth after a two out error from Marcus Semien. The first of the four runs was scored on Springer’s fourth hit of the day, an RBI double. Jose Altuve had the go-ahead hit with a two-run single. Finally, Michael Brantley added another run on a single, bringing the score to 7-5. Correa hit his second home run of the game in the seventh. The Astros scored their final two runs in the ninth on a single from Correa for his fourth RBI, and a sac fly from Yuli Gurriel.

A pair of lefties will grace the mound in Game Two as Framber Valdez and Sean Manaea will face off. These starters will look to give their teams more length since both starters in Game One went only four innings.
