Alex Bregman Hires Scott Boras as Agent

Alex Bregman

According to the Houston Chronicle, Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman has hired Scott Boras as his new agent.

How Alex Bregman Picked Scott Boras

Longtime agent, Brodie Scoffield, was released by Bregman back in May. Since that time, Bregman searched for new representation before landing with Boras, who also represents Bregman’s teammates Jose Altuve and Lance McCullers.

The saga started when Scoffield’s Tidal Sports Firm was bought out by Klutch Sports. Klutch Sports is known for representing several NBA superstars, such as Lebron James and Anthony Davis. When they bought out Tidal Sports, they expanded to represent baseball players as well.

Bregman became upset when Lebron James’ company, Uninterrupted, decided to do a docu-series on the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. This lead to Bregman’s termination of Scoffield, and his eventual signing with Boras.

Effects On Bregman

This shift in representation won’t have much effect for Bregman in the near future, as he is signed through 2024. Bregman agreed to this contract (five-years, $100 million) in May of 2019. The first three years of the contract are worth $13 million per year, but the 2020 salary will be prorated due to the abbreviated MLB season. However, the final two years of the deal skyrocket to $30.5 million per year. Because of Bregman’s current deal, the only thing Boras could do is work on an extension for the back-to-back MLB All-Star.

Bregman finished the 2019 season with a .296/.423/.592 slash line. Adding to his value is the fact that he is constantly available — playing in over 155 games in three straight seasons.

Boras now represents another one of the top players in Major League Baseball. Just this past offseason, Boras represented the top three free agents: Gerrit Cole, Stephen Strasburg, and Anthony Rendon. Due to Boras’s past history with his clients, Bregman can rest easy knowing that he is in good hands.
