Alex Gordon Re-Signs With the Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals have re-signed Alex Gordon to a one year deal worth four million dollars. Gordon has spent his entire 13-year career as a Kansas City Royal. Gordon will be 36 years old when the 2020 season starts.

Clubhouse Leader

After winning the 2015 World Series the Royals are now rebuilding. Most of the top players from the championship team are scattered around the league but Gordon has remained. Hunter Dozier is quoted as calling Gordon the leader of the clubhouse. “He’s the leader of our clubhouse and it’s really important to have guys like him around when you have a young team like we do.”

Whit Merrifield has the locker next to Gordon talked about how excited the team is to have him back. “I can’t tell you how excited we are to have him back. Probably the second greatest player to ever wear a Royals uniform. What he means to this team and this city goes beyond numbers. He instantly makes any team better.”

Gordon’s Career

Alex Gordon has a career batting average of .258 with an OBP of .339. Gordon has hit 186 HR with 738 RBI and 852 runs scored. He has even swiped 113 bags. Ever the team player Gordon began his career as a third baseman but moved to the outfield during the 2010 season.

The former Nebraska Cornhusker is a three-time All-Star and a seven-time gold glove winner. Gordon was the second overall pick in the 2005 draft and he made his major league debut in 2007.

No Trade Clause

As a 10-and-5 player Gordon has earned a no-trade clause. But would the Royals trade away their most popular player? Jeffrey Flanagan is reporting per a source that Gordon has waived his 10-and-5 clause meaning the Royals can trade him any time they want.

Royals General Manager Dayton Moore has said he is not considering trading Gordon right now and he does not feel this is his final season in baseball. But with the team rebuilding Gordon could be a very useful piece for a team looking to win the World Series.
