Former New York Mets pitcher Doc Gooden has been arrested again Monday night in Newark, NJ for driving under the influence. In addition, Gooden also was driving the wrong way on a one-way street. This arrest is on the heels of a prior arrest on June 7th for cocaine possession.
According to an Essex County law enforcement source, Gooden who lives in Piscataway NJ was clearly buzzed and he also pissed himself. But it was noted Gooden was cooperative and polite. Gooden was picked up on Vincent Street near Ferry Street and was described as a mess. Gooden told the cops on the scene that he was diabetic. His late father was diabetic but it is not known if Gooden himself is diabetic.

Doc Gooden Arrested Again
Gooden’s Past Troubles
Gooden who is 54 years old has had drug and alcohol issues since 1986. A drug binge after the Mets won the World Series led to Gooden missing the victory parade down the famous Canyon of Heroes in New York City. Gooden missed the first two months of the 1987 season after checking into drug rehab.
Since 2002 Gooden has been arrested at least eight times for various infractions. Those infractions range from a probation violation to driving while intoxicated to cocaine possession to battery charges and driving under the influence of a controlled substance.
Baseball Career
Gooden was once the best pitcher in all of baseball. After having one of the best seasons ever by a pitcher in 1985 and at 19 years old Gooden was already being called a sure-fire Hall of Famer. That season Gooden went 24-4 with a 1.53 earned run average and compiled 268 strikeouts.
Gooden’s career numbers of 194-112 with a 3.51 earned run average with 2,293 strikeouts is still very good. But it’s a far cry from what could have been. Especially for a pitcher with the physical talents of Gooden. Aside from the Mets Gooden also pitched for the New York Yankees, Cleveland Indians, Houston Astros, and the then Tampa Bay Devil Rays.
Gooden has been a part of three World Series champion teams with the Mets in 1986 and the Yankees in 1996 and 2000. He won the 1984 National League Rookie of the Year and won the 1985 National League Cy Young award. Gooden also threw his only no-hitter in 1996 against the Seattle Mariners.
