New York Yankees Acquire Terrance Gore
The New York Yankees have acquired outfielder Terrance Gore from the Kansas City Royals for cash considerations. Gore will report to the Yankees’ Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre team.

Terrance Gore Career
Gore was a 20th round draft pick by the Royals in 2011 out of Gulf Coast Community College. Gore, who was a two-sport star in high school, turned down football scholarships from the University of Georgia and Georgia Tech. Instead, Gore attended Gulf Coast Community College, where he played one season of baseball, hitting .330 and had 51 stolen bases in 54 attempts.
In his minor league career, Gore has stolen 293 bases and has been caught only 32 times. Known as a top base stealer, Gore has only managed a .239 batting average. This has contributed to his ability to stay in the major leagues.
Debut of Terrance Gore
Gore made his major league debut with the Royals in August of 2014. In six years, Gore has only 67 at-bats with a .224 batting average. He has stolen 40 bases and was caught stealing nine times. Stealing bases has been easy for Gore on every level he has played in his career. Getting on first base has been Gore’s issue. For his career, Gore has a combined number of hits, bases on balls, and hit by pitches of 25. Gore has not hit one HR in the big leagues and has only one RBI.
Gore did appear in the postseason with the Royals in 2014 and 2015. While Gore never stepped up in a batter’s box, he did steal four bases and was caught only once.
To the Cubs
After the 2017 season, the Royals non-tendered Gore and he signed back with the Royals on a minor league contract. In August of the 2018 season, Gore was traded to the Chicago Cubs for cash considerations. It was more of the same for Gore as a Cub, as he had only five at-bats but stole six bases and was not caught stealing. He appeared in the postseason with the Cubs, getting two at-bats with one stolen base.
Back to Kansas City
After the 2018 season, Gore came back home to the Royals on a one year contract. Gore has played the whole 2019 season in the majors and has the most playing time of his career. Gore is batting .275 with 13 stolen bases and he was caught stealing five times. The Royals designated him for assignment on July 12th and the Yankees picked him up today.
Role in New York
Gore will be used as organizational depth by the Yankees. Stolen bases, while being a lost art, can still be very useful at the right times, especially in close playoff games. Over the years, there have been occasions where a stolen base was very vital to the outcome of a game and the series. The most famous one was back in 2004, when Dave Roberts — then of the Boston Red Sox — stole a base against the Yankees that tied Game Four of the ALCS and turned around one of the most famous playoff series in baseball history.
