Philadelphia Phillies Injuries: Stars Head to Injured List

The list of Philadelphia Phillies injuries continues to grow as infielders Scott Kingery and Jean Segura were placed on the Injured List.

Philadelphia Phillies infielders Jean Segura, Scott Kingery, and reliever Victor Arano were recently placed on the 10-day Injured List. The red hot Philadelphia defense is now suddenly very thin in the infield. The depressing pitching is now even more depleted then it was before. The Phillies also opted to call three players up from Triple-A to fill in for the injured stars.

Philadelphia Phillies Injuries Growing Rapidly

Jean Segura

Segura injured his hamstring in last Tuesday’s game against the New York Mets. Originally, he was only reported to miss four or five days. However, now he will miss at least 10 when the Phillies designated him for the 10-day Injured List.

Scott Kingery

“Shortstop Scott Kingery had to leave after grounding into a fielder’s choice to end the top of the fourth inning. He pulled up as he reached first base and left the game due to a right hamstring strain,” reported MLB.com on Saturday. McCutchen also went down in the same game in the sixth inning. However, he remains active saying it was just irritation.

Victor Arano

Arano allowed two runs in 4.2 innings against the Miami Marlins before his injury. Arano joins David Robertson on the 10-day Injured List while Tommy Hunter is already on the 60-day Injured List for the Phillies. The pitching down the stretch in Philadephia has been depressing at best, which makes this an especially hard 10-day hit for the Phillies bullpen.

Triple-A Options Up

In response to putting three on the Injured List, Philadelphia called up Austin Davis, Drew Anderson, and Mitch Walding from Triple-A Lehigh Valley. Walding, a third baseman, ranks fourth in HR and second in RBI in Triple-A Davis comes to Philadelphia with 10 innings pitched, one win, and a spotless ERA for the Iron Pigs. Anderson, another reliever, is the most surprising to be opted up. He holds four earned runs in four innings for a 9.00 ERA.

Segura, Philadelphia’s starting shortstop, and Kingery, their backup shortstop, both went to the Injured List. Infielder Phil Gosselin, who just joined the team last week, will be the fill-in for Segura and Kingery at shortstop. While it is only for 10 days, the Philadelphia Phillies injuries to Segura, Arano, and Kingery will definitely lead to some missed production. However, the Phillies must persevere forward and dig out wins in the coming week.
