Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Freddy Peralta has injured his AC joint in his throwing shoulder. He has been placed on the 10-day injured list. David Stearns told Bill Schroeder and Craig Coshun on Tuesday’s Fox Sports Brewer game broadcast the injury is not considered severe.
Freddy Peralta Lands on IL With Injured Shoulder
It likely will be a short term stay on the injured list for Peralta. He has inflammation in his AC joint. Often times doctors will treat an AC injury with medicine, a possible cortisone shot, and physical therapy for strengthening to relieve stress on the joint. Afterward, the team will see how he responds to the treatment.

Aaron Wilkerson Called Up
Aaron Wilkerson has been called up to take Peralta’s place. Wilkerson pitched in 3 games for the Brewers last year, one of which was a start. He gave up 10 ER in nine innings for a 10.00 ERA and 8.05 FIP. It is no surprise his HR/9 was bloated at 4.0 and BB/9 was also high at 3.0. His performance in 2017 was more promising. In three games, including two starts, he gave up four ER in 10.1 innings. While it was a small sample size, his ERA and FIP were both solid at 3.48 and 3.35 respectively.

Wilkerson has been starting at Triple-A San Antonio this year. In two starts, he has dominated. So far at Triple-A San Antonio, he has only given up one ER in 11.1 IP for a microscopic 0.79 ERA and 4.0 H/9. He has also kept his walks down at 1.6 per 9 innings, which is far below his career average of 2.9 per nine. His SO/9 is staying similar to his high career average of 9.1 per nine innings.

Wilkerson Not Guaranteed to Start
It is not a given that Wilkerson will make the start for Peralta. It is likely that Wilkerson pitches out of the bullpen until Peralta’s turn in the rotation comes up, eating up any innings that he can. At that point, another roster move will be made for someone to take Peralta’s start. David Stearns also told Bill Schroeder and Craig Coshun that Chase Anderson is expected to make starts at some point this season. Depending on his workload this week, Anderson could be another option.
Other Noteworthy Moves
As expected, Jake Petricka was sent to the minors to make room for Jeremy Jeffress. That transaction was expected. However, the peculiar part about the transaction is that Petricka was optioned to the Class-A Timber Rattlers instead of the Triple-A Missions.

Two minutes into the interview, Alex Wilson states he is going to be a father again this Wednesday. Obviously, Petricka is being stashed close to home at Appleton so he can make a quick trip to Miller Park this week when he covers Wilson’s roster spot. As Adam McCalvy notes in the original tweet, Petricka normally would not be able to be recalled because he has not been down in the minors for 10 days. However, when someone on the roster takes paternity leave as Wilson might do, the 10-day rule is waived.
