Cristian Santana – Collision Course With 100 RBI?

100 runs batted in at any level, any season is quite an accomplishment. To achieve this mark at the High-A level is extremely impressive. Cristian Santana is into the mid-80’s in RBI’s and figures to have a shot to drive in that elusive number. The Los Angeles Dodgers have yet another high caliber prospect in Santana who is currently the Cal League leader in the aforementioned category.

Cal League MVP?

Fans of the Colorado Rockies and the San Diego Padres may adamantly disagree with anyone other than their player, Vince Fernandez and Hudson Potts respectively, winning the Cal League MVP. Both of whom are having tremendous seasons as well. Cristian Santana has been consistently driving in runs and getting base hits all season. His 86 Run’s Batted In lead the league, while he is third in Home Run’s with 19. In addition, he has 110 base hits (tied for ninth), along with 181 Total Bases which ranks him eighth in the league.

Cristian Santana – RBI Machine

The Quakes corner infielder has produced all season long for the High-A affiliate at Rancho Cucamonga. He was surprisingly though, not a mid-season All-Star in June. His numbers were productive, however, he was ultimately left off the South Division roster in what some considered a snub at the time. His timely hitting and ability to drive in runs in bunches make him a joy to watch.

Cristian Santana has 23 games left in which to accomplish the feat of driving in 100 runs. He can be a streaky hitter at times. It will be interesting to see if he can get hot at the right time. The Quakes want him in the hitting zone as the playoffs approach in September.

The magical number of 100 RBI’s in a minor league season has certainly been done before. It is a nice milestone, but not all that important at the end of the day. Development is the most valuable use of this time in High-A ball. Cristian Santana is developing into a middle-of-the-order, run producer.
