Lance Lynn Signs With Minnesota Twins

According to reports, free agent Lance Lynn signs a 1 year deal with the Minnesota Twins worth $12 million. The deal keeps him in a Twins uniform through the 2018 season.

Lynn, 30, played 33 games for the St. Louis Cardinals last season. He totaled 186.1 innings, posting a 3.03 ERA with an 8.6 K/9 and a 3.5 BB/9 this season. Lynn held a .929 fielding percentage this season and managed nine putouts in 2017. Lynn finishes this season with a 0.79 RF/G (Range Factor per Game). Lynn ended this season with a 2.8 WAR.

Lynn has spent six seasons in the majors, all of them with the St. Louis Cardinals. He has a career 14.1 WAR. Lynn has a career 72-47 record with a 3.38 ERA. The now 30-year-old has accumulated 977.2 innings throughout his career and collected 919 strikeouts, and finally a career 1.28 WHIP. In Lynn’s career, he has deposited two 200 inning seasons in 2013 and 2014.

Lynn was born in Indianapolis, Indiana in 1987. The 30-year-old right-hander went to college at the University of Mississippi. Lynn was drafted by the Seattle Mariners in the 6th round of 2005 Amateur draft, and then later drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals as the 39th pick of 2008 Amateur Draft. Lynn made his debut for the Cardinals in 2011 as a 24-year-old against the San Francisco Giants, where he went 5.1 innings yielding four hits and five earned runs on his way to five strikeouts.

Lynn has experienced many postseasons with the Cardinals. His first postseason was during his rookie season in 2011. The Cardinals rookie dazzled in 2011 NLCS against the Milwaukee Brewers. In his postseason debut, Lynn went 5.1 innings, giving up only three hits, two walks with one strikeout.  Lynn then pitched in the World Series that year but did not pitch as well, posting a 6.35 ERA.  Lynn went on to see four consecutive postseasons with St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. The 30-year-old right-hander has 5-4 postseason record, with a 4.50 ERA, 4.5 BB/9, and an 8.7 K/9.
