Gutierrez’s Career Profile

Gutierrez, as previously mentioned, was one of the 13 prospects put onto the free agent block by the league from the Braves. The reason for this was due to the Braves breaking several international signing rules. Gutierrez is the third prospect to find a new home after being released. The first was shortstop Kevin Maitan, who joined the Los Angeles Angels, and the second was pitcher Yefri Del Rosario, who joined the Kansas City Royals. Gutierrez, at the young age of 18 made his debut in pro baseball playing for the Gulf Coast Braves in the Gulf Coastal League. Through the year Gutierrez stats were a remarkable .264 batting average with one home run and 12 RBI.

Some of the things that have been highlighted by some in his scouting report include things such as his incredible prowess on defense as a 17 year old, his arm strength, his pop time, and his ability to handle just about any pitch.

The Impact Of The Signing

For the Phillies, though this may seem like a minor move, this builds on an incredible off-season so far. With the additions of Carlos Santana, Tommy Hunter, and Pat Neshek this season, along with the prospect from the Freddy Galvis trade to the San Diego Padres, Enyel De Los Santos, this has been a great off-season for the Phillies. Not to mention now adding a prospect that was part of one of the best farm systems in MLB today.
