Russell Martin Rejoins Blue Jays: Martin is rejoining the Jays but is not expected to play until the last game of the series against the Baltimore Orioles.

Russell Martin Rejoins Blue Jays after 29 games missed

The Canadian catcher has been sidelined and out of action for Toronto since August 11. Martin is 34-years of age and has 12 home runs and 27 RBI in a mere 81 games played for Toronto this season. He was most recently sidelined by a left-oblique strain.

Martin is still set to receive $40 million for his contract that runs through 2019. This will be the first time that he has not appeared in 100 games or more since the year of 2010, which sure says a lot about his playing resume and speaks volumes of a great career. He is a former Los Angeles Dodger, and it was with the Dodgers where he last appeared in less than 100 games in a season.Martin will not be in the lineup today, but he is expected to see playing time during the series against the Orioles.

Martin with Toronto

This is Martin’s third year catching for the Blue Jays. While Martin will not get the start tonight at catcher, he will indeed to be expected to see playing action in the final game of the series against the Baltimore Orioles. Martin overall has been out of action for 29 games. That is a considerably large chunk of time that he has missed due to the oblique injury that he has dealt with this season.

Outlook

Martin has been a 20 home run and 70 RBI each of his first two seasons with Toronto, but it remains highly unlikely that he will reach those numbers this season. The best hope for the Jays is that Martin can shake off this injury and post a healthy 2018. It would likely be difficult for Toronto to move his contract at this point in Martin’s career.
