Jordon Adell 2017 MLB Draft Profile

Jordon Adell 2017 MLB Draft Profile

Jordon Adell is a right-handed outfielder who is finishing his senior year at Ballard High in Louisville, Kentucky. The school media guide lists Adell at 6’3″, and 205 pounds. He has signed a letter of intent to play for the University of Louisville Cardinals next season. He will weigh his options based on the outcome of the June draft. According to Baseball America, as of May 4, 2017, Adell has hit 21 home runs on the season and owns a slash line of .538/.640/1.436. Rawlings-Perfect Game named him a 2017 First-Team All-American. He was also a first-team underclass award winner in 2016.

Strengths

Adell’s biggest strength is his bat. Hitting .512 in high school is phenomenal. He has the ability to hit for power and average. His average and OPS show that he has developed patience and a good eye for the zone. His base path explosion is very good to excellent. He has a cannon for a arm, ranked at 97 from the outfield. Scouts at Perfect Game believe he has a very high ceiling, showing that he has a lot of room for improvement. His skill set is already above average for a player his age at the high school level. Combine with a great glove, high work ethic, and personal intensity, and he will be a great addition to any team. A rebuilding team can build an outfield around him.

Weaknesses

He has work to do with the bat to compete at the professional level. He swings and misses too often, and has some issues catching up to fastballs. Dedicating time with a batting coach to improve both his eye and his swing will help improve Adell’s at-bats. He has improved between his summer league last year and this year’s high school season. However, he needs more work before facing the nasty stuff that professional pitchers have.
