Jordan Jolly Named LWOS NAL Offensive Player of the Year

The National Arena League (NAL) awards are almost ready to be released. Here at LWOS, we are releasing our own version of the awards. Today, we are announcing the LWOS NAL Offensive Player of the Year, awarded to Carolina Cobras Wide Receiver Jordan Jolly.

Jordan Jolly Named LWOS NAL Offensive Player of the Year

This season, Jolly was the lone-receiver to join the Cobras from last year and stay on the team. Receivers like Phillip Barnett and Fabian Guerra returned to the team, but went to the Arena Football League (AFL). While this was a struggle for the Cobras offense as a whole, it meant Jolly could shine brighter than ever.

Jolly in 2019 broke the all-time Regular Season NAL receiving yards record with 1,210 yards on 104 receptions. He also had 31 receiving touchdowns, which is the most in the league in all categories. He broke the record for the most receiving yards. His efforts also tied the record for the most receiving touchdowns in a season. Jolly rushed five times for five yards and a touchdown as well in 2019.

The stats are great and help a ton when it comes to getting the OPY award, but another factor is put into play; that is how well the team would do without the player. Even though Jolly playd in all 14 games in 2019, he has helped tremendously all year. When Quarterback Charles McCullum was suspended for a week, Jolly stepped up and played quarterback after Matt Foltz started the game, but got pulled for Jolly.

Special Teams

Not only does Jolly have the ability to beat defensive backs as well as play quarterback, he also plays a crucial role in special teams: The Placeholder. Being a placeholder for the kicker is not an easy task. He has to point where the ball is going to land for the kicker, catch any snap (good snap or bad snap), and place the ball exactly where he pointed earlier. If one thing goes wrong, the entire kick can end in a disaster. Jolly hasn’t had many mistakes at all this season with holding the ball for both of the Cobras kickers this season (Nick Belcher and Brandon Rutherford).
