Coming off of one of their biggest wins since the franchise was resurrected in 2008, the Iowa Barnstormers are staring a trap game right in the face.
On Friday, the Cedar Rapids Titans will come into Wells Fargo Arena boasting a lackluster 1-8 record through their first nine games of the season.
Iowa Barnstormers treating Cedar Rapids Titans like Champions
Like always, the Barnstormers will be treating this one like any other game.
“We treat Cedar Rapids like they’re the champions,” coach Dixie Wooten said. “They have got a great offense and basically the MVP of the league at the quarterback position.”
Although, Wooten and his staff treat every game like that, because they know just how fortunate they are to see wins in Des Moines.
“We haven’t been winning long so we don’t believe in trap games,” Wooten said. “It was just two years ago that we only won four games.”
Of course, that was before Wooten showed up. In his time in Iowa, Wooten has coached the Barnstormers to a combined 19-6 record through his one and a half years so far.
Just last week, Iowa earned its first win over the Sioux Falls Storm in franchise history.
Some of the success there came from quarterback Drew Powell who has returned from his two-week, CFL-tryout hiatus.
“That was a big win for our team,” Powell said. “It gives us a little bit of confidence to show that we are just as good, and can play with any one on any day.”
Powell and company will take on Cedar Rapids as the Barnstormers host 90’s night this Friday at Wells Fargo Arena.
