Corpus Christi Rage Wants Positive Outcome vs. Columbus Lions

The (0-7) Corpus Christi Rage still haven’t found anything that could work for this this year as they head to the Columbus Lions home arena this weekend.

Last week against the Jacksonville Sharks, the Rage started to get something to work, but just couldn’t find the board that much, only getting six points.

Quarterback Jake Jablonski threw 10 of 30 for 66 yards and two interceptions. He also rushed for 46 yards and a touchdown. Those aren’t great numbers, but not too many people can say they’ve rushed for a 35-yard touchdown against Jacksonville.

Let’s break down what Corpus Christi needs to fix to have a better outcome this week.

1. Give the Quarterback Room to Run

When Jablonski ran last week, he was on fire, averaging 15.3 yards per rush. That’s amazing stats for a quarterback. Not too many fullbacks in this league can rush for 15 yards on a single carry, let alone averaging that. The offensive line needs to step it up and create some gaps for this quarterback to make plays like he did last week.

2. Be Smart with Throwing

Although Jablonski was decent last week, he threw twice as many incomplete passes as he did completed passes, two of which being an interception. Again, the offensive line needs to step it up and allow him to have more time to find his receivers short or down the field.

3. Rush the Ball More

Last week, we only saw Jablonski run the ball. Not one other person ran the ball for the Rage. We need to see more people running the ball. No, there isn’t much that they’ve been doing on the ground, but at least it could throw the Lions off guard since they know the Rage don’t have great rushers , so the Lions will be expecting pass every play.

4. Defense Wins Games

We need to see more of the plays where the Rage intercepted Damien Fleming’s pass. Fleming hardly makes mistakes and the Rage forced him to make one late in the game. We need to see more of that and less of the Lions on the scoreboard.

Turnovers (even on downs) will help the Rage so much if their defense forces is. The only thing stopping the Rage is the Lions home crowd, but nobody on Corpus Christi should worry or be afraid of them.
