Toro Rosso 2015 Season Preview

Red Bull’s Development team is poised to have more eyes on them than ever this season, as 17 year old rookie sensation, Max Verstappen joins the squad. Verstappen will be the youngest driver to start an f1 race in history, beating out 19 year old Jaime Alguesuari by a full year and then some.

Toro Rosso 2015 Season Preview

Toro Rosso liked Verstappen because he used so much of the track.  During testing late last season and into this year, the results show that Verstappen can get it done.  At the Yas Marina, Verstappen was up with the big guns running third of the active teams and shaving 3.4 seconds off his time overnight

Testing Results
Yas Marina – November 25-26, 2014
Name Time Laps Position
Verstappen 1:47:194 55 9th/10 teams
Verstappen 1:43:763 78 3rd/11 teams

During the first testing results of 2015, Sainz Jr. and Verstappen rivaled each other by one-upping themselves.  Each driver improved the others time by one second (with the exception of Verstappen with six tenths better on the last day.)

Testing Results
Jerez – February 1-4, 2015
Name Time Laps Position
Sainz Jr. 1:25:327 46 6th/7 teams
Verstappen 1:24:167 73 5th/8 teams
Sainz Jr. 1:23:127 136 6th/8 teams
Verstappen 1:22:553 97 4th/8 teams

As a rookie, Verstappen does not have much to go off, at least in his paddock that is.  His teammate is also a rookie in Carlos Sainz Jr.  The 21 year old spanishman had himself a booming 2014.

With seven wins, Sainz Jr. took to the formula renault 3.5 and became the series’ youngest champion ever.  Just marking another “young gun” taking the cake which we should see from this team this season.  Even though a win might be a long shot, Toro Rosso is the team to steal a podium spot in 2015.
