Kyle Benjamin earns ‘East Coast Win’

Kyle Benjmain took home the east coast win in Friday’s Casey’s 150 at Iowa Speedway, but he has yet to cross one item off the bucket list.

Kyle Benjamin earns ‘East Coast Win’

Benjamin has raced at Iowa a total of six times, four in K&N and two in ARCA, and has earned five top 10 finishes at the 7/8th’s mile oval. However, he has yet to add a win to his Iowa resume.

“Nah, I mean technically yeah, but you want to finish first, Benjamin said. “You want to cross the line as the first car, I will definitely take it, but I want to win the old fashioned way.”

“I certainly hope [we can get a win], we keep bringing good cars to the track week in and week out and I think one of these times we will get the win. Hopefully next time we come back here we will end up winning, we’ve been really consistent here and everywhere we have [raced] this year.”

Benjamin crossed the line after Todd Gilliland on Friday Night, who battled with Benjamin for the first spot all through the night.

“[The battle] was super cool,” Gilliland said. “I’ve never really raced with him, but we never touched he each other, he was right with me, I was right with him, side-by-side. It was a lot of fun.”

Benjamin used the strong run off the outside lane to hold off Gilliland.

“He was definitely better than us. The only thing that got me right by him is that I found the top before he did,” Benjamin said. “Once he found the top and discovered that, his car took off. Early on in the race he could run the bottom about as well as I could run the top. If you can do that here, your car is very strong so that definitely worried me.”

Watkin’s Glen

In the end, Benjamin gained some points over Justin Haley and now sits 32 points back going into next week’s Watkin’s Glen Event.

“We’re definitely looking to win,” Benjamin said. “The next [race] is Watkin’s Glen so you’ve got to turn right next weekend, but hopefully we can get the win there.”
