Steph Curry Out a Minimum of Two Weeks

The bad news for the Golden State Warriors came down today. The Warriors have announced that an MRI on point guard Stephen Curry’s knee determined he had a Grade 1 sprain of the MCL. He will be out for at least two weeks, at which point he would be re-evaluated.

Curry had been playing on a bad ankle. His minutes in the first two games of the series against the Houston Rockets were limited, and he didn’t play in Golden State’s game three loss. Nearing the end of the first half in game four, Curry appeared to hit a wet spot on the court and went down awkwardly and hard.

That timetable would lead to Curry missing the rest of the first round of the playoffs and likely at least four games in round two if the Warriors are able to advance. Assuming the Warriors can close out their series against the Rockets, which seems a good bet, they would face the winner of the Los Angeles Clippers vs Portland Trail Blazers series in the second round.  The Clippers currently lead the series 2-1.

This dampen the hopes of a back to back championship for the Golden State Warriors as they simply have not been the same team without Curry. Curry is expected to be named the NBA MVP at some point during the second round of the playoffs. He led the Warriors to a 73-9 record, the best in NBA history. However their claim for the status of the best team ever may be in jeopardy if they can not continue to win without Curry.
