Yannick Weber, Canucks Agree to One-Year Deal

The Vancouver Canucks announced this morning that they were able to re-sign defenseman, Yannick Weber to a one-year contract extension worth $1.5 million. This comes after the Canucks electing the idea to not qualify Weber as a restricted free agent.

Weber was first among his defenceman teammates in Vancouver in goals with 11 goals and was third with 26 points in 65 games played. However in the post-season he remained off the score sheet after being unable to produce anything in 6 playoff games. As a Canucks fan, you can expect Weber’s minutes to go up after Vancouver decided to trade out defenseman, Kevin Bieksa to the Anaheim Ducks just one day prior.

Weber entered the Canucks organization after signing with them in 2013, when his original team, the Montreal Canadiens, coincidentally decided not to qualify him as a restricted free agent.

In total, the 26 year-old Swiss defenceman, has played a total of 229 regular season games in his NHL career, scoring a total of 22 goals, 41 assists, and 63 points. His post-season career has him recorded in 12 games played, scoring three goals, and notching just one lone assist.

Weber was drafted by Montreal in 2007 at 73rd overall.
