Fantasy Profile: Prince Fielder, 1B, Texas Rangers

Prince Fielder missed the majority of the 2014 season with a herniated disc in his neck. He received surgery last May and a Fox Sports report suggests that Fielder will be good to go for the start of the season. He will be expected to be the full time 1B for the Texas Rangers.

Prior to his injury, Fielder was a model for consistency as he never saw less than 648 plate appearances from 2006 to 2013. In fact Fielder had only missed one game since 2009 until he had to opt for surgery ending his streak of consecutive games played at 547. Fielder had never hit less than 30 homers from 2007 to 2012 season while also posting a .289/.401/.549 slash line during that span. In 2013, his last season with the Tigers, Fielder posted below average numbers though (at least for his standards) and will probably never reach his prior numbers in the future.

Going on 31, Fielder is heading towards the latter part of his career. With a neck surgery under his belt, he won’t be asked to play every day like he did in the past. However, a clean bill of health and that thin warm air down in Arlington, Fielder should still be able to produce a solid fantasy season.
