Grid Changes for Second Formula E race

Although it’s seemed we’ve had to wait an eternity for news about the second ePrix in the Formula E Championship, we finally have some with the race now under a month away. The next race will take place around the streets of Putrajaya in Malaysia. Once again Fanboost will be reenabled with all the drivers now available for selection. However, upon looking at the list of drivers, we will be seeing a few new faces on the grid. Amin Aguri have confirmed that their original signing of Antonio Felix da Costa will be driving for them alongside Katherine Legge with the DTM series over and seemingly no Red Bull F1 duties. This will be his first race in the all electric series and putting him further on the back foot, he hasn’t had much testing time either. He replaces the official FIA Formula E test driver, Takuma Sato.

Another change to the lineup can be seen at China Racing with reserve driver Antonio Garcia stepping in for Ho Pin Tung who has commitments in the Asian Le Mans Series. He has been with them since the beginning of testing and appears a safe pair of hands.

Audi driver Daniel Abt has confirmed he will be missing his GP2 commitments in order to race in Malaysia however, it is not official that e.Dams driver Sebastien Buemi or Andretti driver Charles Pic will be able to make the gird due to F1 reserve commitments with Red Bull and Lotus respectively. If unable, it would be most likely that Matthew Brabham will step in to Pic’s seat while it is unclear who might replace Buemi. However, Amlin Aguri tester Fabio Leimer could fill the seat in a one off race due to his experience with the machinery.

We’ll just have to wait and see.
