Opinion: Stand Behind Paul Rhoads

As Iowa State gave up a last second field goal to lose to Texas and move to 2-5, a number of individuals on social media asked and/or doubted how safe Paul Rhoads’ job was.

With three ranked teams coming up in the next five games for Iowa State, the Cyclones aren’t expected to do anything near six wins, let alone getting two against Kansas (Away) and Texas Tech. (Home)

Now a 4-8 season in his sixth year as a head coach for the university wouldn’t be too good, but Rhoads can show a lot with that 4-8 record, a win against a strong Iowa team, along with a number of moral victories. Even though moral victories are the last thing Cyclone fans want to hear right now, that is and will continue to be the basis of this season. Rhoads has gotten the team to perform in ways never imagined.  They are becoming competitive and taking steps towards a better record, even if those steps aren’t always showing up in the win column.

If fans remember back to the Oklahoma State game and that horrific call that gave OSU a 13-6 lead going into halftime, Iowa State athletic director Jamie Pollard stood up before the Big 12 Conference and stood up for Paul Rhoads. This displays more confidence in a coach since Cyclone fans have seen in a decade.

If things go as planned, there seems to be nothing stopping Paul Rhoads from coming back for a 7th Season.
