Death, taxes and Western domination

Another impressive effort this past weekend by the Western division, winning two out of three head-to-head against the east and improving their record to 26 and 4, division on division. The West has not just been good this season, they have been historically good.

At this point in the year the Winnipeg Blue bombers are in the Western division basement with a record of 6-6. They have double the wins of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats (3-7) who are leaders in the East.

THE LAST PLACE TEAM IN THE WEST HAS DOUBLE THE WINS OF THE FIRST PLACE TEAM IN THE EAST!

A ridiculous scenario which we likely will never see again at any point in our lives. So let’s enjoy the Western race as the playoff push is now officially on with one-third of the season to play.

Calgary and their 10-1 record stand alone in the CFL; no team at this point is even close. With Quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell out with an injury however,  it is not impossible for Saskatchewan or Edmonton to go on a run and steal the top position in the West. Not likely, but not impossible.

If we concede that Calgary has the #1 spot, the race for #2 should be intense, as no team wants to land in third and play on the road throughout the Western playoffs. Especially when you consider the #4 seed looks more enticing then the #3, with the #4 likely crossing over to the East and playing through a playoff path with far less resistance.

The schedule this season has been set up to include most of the inter-division matchups early in the season and it could not have worked out any better.  Nothing in either division is even close to settled and the last several games mean even more, with mostly divisional games remaining.

Another dominating season for Calgary is alive and well, but although there’s lots of track left, the final straightaway is in sight. It should be lots of fun to see if the rest of the West can get into a higher gear and make this more then just a one horse race.
