NASCAR Fuel It Up in the Desert!

Welcome to “Fuel It Up”!  The racing world is chock full of intriguing stories, but sifting through them to get a good general sense of the landscape can be challenging.  In Fuel It Up, I take the biggest, more interesting storylines and present them to you in a quick, compact 300-words-or-less format.

The winner of this week’s paint scheme award goes to Kyle Busch who will be driving the #18 Skittles Toyota.  Special mention goes out to Kyle Larson in the #42 Clorox Chevrolet……………  The Author of “The NASCAR Song”, Comedian Tim Wilson, died of an apparent heart attack on Wednesday evening.  Wilson was 52…………… Who says the networks don’t listen to fans?  FOX NASCAR broadcast during the Sprint Unlimited and the Duels featured a God awful Leaderboard crawl on the side of the screen.  After receiving complaints via social media from NASCAR fans, FOX thankfully removed the crawl and replaced it with the crawl at the top of the screen.  Good for FOX………….  Speaking of FOX, during the Daytona 500 rain delay the network aired last year’s 500, which was won by Jimmie Johnson.  Many fans, not realizing it was a video replay of last year’s race, were fooled by the replay thinking Johnson had won this year’s race.  Johnson received multiple congratulations from fans on Twitter.  He finally tweeted, “I hear I won the Daytona 500!  Ha ha ha.”……………  Carl Edwards won last season’s spring race at Phoenix.  Kevin Harvick won the fall race last season at Phoenix……………  Jimmie Johnson and Kevin Harvick have the most wins at Phoenix.  Each driver has 4……………  Marcos Lemonis, star of the CNBC show “The Profit” will serve as Grand Marshall on Sunday.  Jesse McGuire, a trumpeter, will perform the National Anthem prior to the race.……………  The weather forecast for Phoenix on Sunday calls for partly cloudy skies with a high temperature of 70f (21c)……………  THE PROFIT ON CNBC 500 can be seen on FOX beginning at 3:00pm EST and on TSN2 in Canada at 3:00 pm est.
