Durantula or King James for MVP?

Two of the best players in the NBA come together tonight in what will be one of the most anticipated battles of the season. On one side the infamous King James, on the other Kevin Durant.

The battle has already been epic on the court, with both Durant and James absolutely dominating the field. Ever since the start of Kevin Durant’s rampage, LeBron James has been attacking the basket as well in a furious attempt to capture NBA glory. While Durant may currently be first in the MVP race, James is right behind him in the #2 spot and will be actively hunting for that lead.

Tonight, the two face off against each other in what will be one of the most intense matches we’ve seen. Both bring their unique skills to the game. Durant is a scoring machine, while James is able to score, and to do everything else on the floor. With the team established around him, James has the ability to perform in many different areas that Durant does not. Without star PG Russell Westbrook, Durant has had to pick up the slack, which is exactly what the young star is doing. Over the last several games, Durant has averaged 37 points per night, and the numbers that go along with it are absolutely insane.

James has a phenomenal team around him which makes him look better. Granted this is not to say James isn’t good, because that would be erroneous at best. However, having the presence of his teammates working alongside him only serves to make James look better, more well rounded and more of a complete player. Conversely, while James’ has the able support of his teammates, Durant appears to have to do everything on his own until Westbrook returns. This increased work rate makes Durant look great, but once Westbrook returns, it is reasonable to expect Durant to be averaging lower numbers in the points per game department. In the immediate future though Durant is doing everything possible for his team, and it’s a whole lot.

There has been no stopping either one of the two stars. Tonight though there can only be one victor. Tonight we will see who can stop whom in the Miami Heat – Oklahoma City Thunder matchup. Whatever the outcome, tonight will also go a long way in helping to determine who will end up winning the MVP award at the end of the season.

No one can stop Kevin Durant or LeBron James. Tonight though, that ends, as one of them has to stop the other.
