Scary Dolphins, "Gunslingers" and We're Talking Practice

The NFL is a smorgasbord of awesome storylines.  Some are analytical, others are critical, and some are just down right stupid.  It’s the stupid ones I live for – they make my day.  Welcome to Quick Slant.  I created this column as my way of sharing with you the headlines from around the NFL that I feel are most interesting.  I try to offer my own take on the story in as few words as possible – some of us have a wife, kids and a job and don’t have time to read 5000+ word novels!  So, without further ado, I give you today’s version of Quick Slant:

image005The Indianapolis Colts have added Wide Receiver Darrius Heyward Bey who was cut by the Raiders. Cut by the Raiders, only to sign in Indianapolis.  This is like being fired as a high school teacher, and landing on your feet as a professor at Harvard….. The Miami Dolphins felt they needed an update to their very intimidating dolphin with a helmet.  Their solution?  A dolphin that obviously does pilates and keeps to a lean fish only diet, jumping through an orange hoop to represent the sun.  Oh, the shivers that will send……The great keep getting greater (or at least more numerous) in the NFL.  The 49ers have added former Longhorn (and Brown – but we won’t count that) Colt McCoy, while the Seahawks rid themselves of Matt Flynn to the Raiders in exchange for some picks.  In related news, the ‘niners and ‘hawks  have broken the record for msot transactions in the history of the world……Speaking of the Browns, with McCoy out of the picture that leaves two real gunslingers (please note attempt at sarcasm) in Brandon Weeden and newly acquired veteran Jason Campbell to battle it out for QB1.  Apparently Trent Richardson, when not being accused of assaulting women, is vigorously banging his head against the wall.  Relax, Browns fans.  You could live in the Greater Jacksonville area…..Someone explain to me why such a big deal is being made about Branden Albert missing Chiefs’ voluntary practices?  Two things: he understands he’s being shopped, and secondly they are VOLUNTARY!  The very definition of the word means he is not held accountable to attend.  Some media are insane. What would Allen Iverson say?  “It’s practice.  We’re talking about practice.  Not a game – practice.  What we talkin’ about?  Practice…etc etc”……Two stories on Geno Smith today to leave you with. First, the West Virginia product is visiting with the Chiefs, and the second claims Geno doesn’t have a great work ethic

That does it for today.  Check back tomorrow and I’ll have sifted through the day’s headlines and give you what you need to know.
