COMMERCE CITY, CO (November 29, 2017) – The inevitable has finally been announced. The Colorado Rapids have hired their new Head Coach, Anthony Hudson. He is the eight head coach in club history.

Colorado Rapids Hire Anthony Hudson As Head Coach

“This is a very special moment for the Rapids. In Anthony, we believe we’ve hired one of the most promising young talents and we’re extremely grateful for the support shown by the Kroenke family and the KSE executive team who remain committed to our goal of bringing another MLS Cup to Colorado,” said Sporting Director and Interim General Manager, Pádraig Smith.

Hudson previously coached the New Zealand Men’s National Team. He led the Kiwis to the Intercontinental Playoff, where they lost to Peru by an aggregate score of 2-0. The 36-year-old led the country to their first ever Confederations Cup last summer.

“It’s an exciting moment and a wonderful opportunity. From the start, I was impressed by the club’s culture, front office and vision for the future. I believe we share a philosophy, and now it’s just a matter of going out and getting the results that both this club and community deserve,” said Rapids Head Coach, Anthony Hudson.

Hudon has been a coach since 2008. He started off that year with third-tier Real Maryland Monarchs at the age of 27. After that, he had stints at Tottenham Hotspur under Harry Rednapp then with fifth-tier side Newport County. Originally from Seattle, WA, he coached the Bahrain U-23 and senior national teams from 2012-14 before heading to New Zealand. He led the U23s to a U-23 Gulf Cup of Nations in 2011 and then the senior team to the 2013-14 West Asian Football Federation Championship.

Hudson will be introduced in a press conference tomorrow at 11:00 AM MST at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park. The press conference will be streamed live on Youtube by the club.
