The Colorado Rapids played at a frenetic pace in the first half. With not much to worry about from Seattle’s front four, they played a high line and had their midfield press Seattle on the ball. This led to turnovers in an advantageous position.

Nicolas Lodeiro was in a box-to-box role in a 4-2-3-1 for Seattle. He and Nicholas Mezquida battled throughout the game with Mezquida fighting hard in a rare start. He set up Shinyashiki and Nicholson for several shooting opportunities.

Seattle lacked much bit in the first half outside of a shot but Justin Dhillon that was stopped. Colorado had several chances on set pieces but goalkeeper Stefan Frei made several good saves.

The Burgundy Boys opened the scoring finally in the 41st minute. A long cross was sent over everyone and across the box. Jonathan Lewis gathered it and passed to Shinyashiki who shot first time. The ball went over Frei’s head, off the bottom of the crossbar and in to make it 1-0.

Andre Shinyashiki scored his second in the 70th minute. Colorado passed the ball beautifully through the Sounders defense. Keegan Rosenbery found Shinyashiki alone in front of Frei and he had a tap in to score.

The match ended 2-0.

Three Takeaways:

AndreROY: Andre Shinyashiki was the man of the night with his first ever brace as a professional. He was dynamic on almost every dribble and now has seven goals on the season.

Shorthanded Sounders: With 10 players missing due to international play, and at most three impact starters in the lineup, Seattle struggled. They couldn’t control the gaps up the middle and lacked any threat in the attack with Lodeiro playing deeper.

Rescheduling makes a difference: This game was originally supposed to take place in April but was moved due to a bomb cyclone in Denver area. At the time, Colorado was winless in 2019 under Anthony Hudson and Seattle probably would have won this game had it been played when it was originally scheduled.
