Podcast (March 27, 2019) – Greetings Colorado Rapids Comrades! This week on Holding The High Line, we’ve got a lot to say about the 4-4-2 diamond and Kellyn Acosta. The guys start off by breaking down the Pids loss to FC Dallas. We talk about Tommy Smith’s return, how the diamond midfield hasn’t been a diamond at all, and all the problems its causing. Oh, and Kei Kamara can dunk.

We then look ahead to Colorado’s game on Saturday against the Houston Dynamo. Red talks about the battle of best strengths vs/ biggest weakness between the two teams. Rabbi’s got some takes on personnel and who to watch out for on Houston. We also discuss Marlon Hairston’s return to Colorado and what to expect from him in this match.

Then we’ve got a truncated segment of Ask HTHL. The guys talk about watching soccer in Spanish and Colorado’s strength of schedule. We then put Kellyn Acosta under the microscope. The guys break down what he’s doing well and not doing well. There’s a lot of moving parts to this topic. Not sure we’ve figured it out, but it’s a good discussion.

Matt Pollard is the Site Manager for Last Word on Soccer and an engineer by day. A Colorado Convert, he started covering the Colorado Rapids as a credentialed member of the press in 2016, though he’s watched MLS since ’96. When he’s not watching or writing about soccer, he’s being an outdoorsman (mostly skiing and hiking) in this beautiful state or trying a new beer. For some reason, he thought that starting a podcast with Mark was a good idea and he can’t figure out how to stop this madness. He also hosts Last Word SC Radio.

Mark Goodman, the artist formally known as Rapids Rabbi, moved to Colorado in 2011. Shortly thereafter he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, saw Lee Nguyen dribble a ball with the silky smoothness of liquid chocolate cascading into a Bar Mitzvah fountain, and promptly fell head over heels in love with domestic soccer. When not watching soccer or coaching his son’s U-8 team, he’s generally studying either Talmud or medieval biblical exegesis. Which explains why he watches so much MLS, probably. Having relocated to Pittsburgh in 2019, he covers the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL for Pittsburgh Soccer Now. His popular Back Pass column will feature at the Denver Post this season.
