Holding The High Line: How Edgar Castillo does what he does

Podcast (August 16, 2018) – Hello, Rapids fans! Today on Holding The High Line with Rabbi and Red, we have lots of happy things to talk about and some sad stuff. We begin by recapping this past week that included a win against San Jose and a draw at LA Galaxy for the Pids. Both involved some late-game heroics and Edgar Castillo being a boss. We do Good Thing, Bad Thing, Big Thing on these two results.

The guys then look ahead to Los Angeles FC and the Colorado Rapids first ever game at Banc of California Stadium. We look at LAFC’s roster, their recent acquisitions at forward, and the Bob Bradley’s head-sized hole they have at holding midfield. This might be a tough game for the Rapids, but squad rotation and taking advantage of weaknesses might get them a result.

We then move on to #AskHTHL with a slew of questions from a number of listeners on a number of different topics. Yes, we address the elephant in the room regarding Mark’s future and the future of HTHL. It’s not as bad as some of you have presumed.

Matt Pollard is the Managing Editor of Last Word on Soccer and an engineer by day. A Colorado Convert, he started covering the Colorado Rapids as a credentialed member of the press in 2016, though he’s watched MLS since it started. When he’s not watching or writing about soccer, he’s being an outdoorsman (mostly skiing and hiking) in this beautiful state or trying a new beer. For some reason, he thought that starting a podcast with Mark was a good idea and he can’t figure out how to stop this madness. He also hosts Last Word SC Radio.

Mark Goodman, aka the Rapids Rabbi, moved to Colorado in 2011. Shortly thereafter he went to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park, saw Lee Nguyen dribble a ball with the silky smoothness of liquid chocolate cascading into a Bar Mitzvah fountain, and promptly fell head over heels in love with domestic soccer. When not watching MLS or coaching U8 soccer, he’s generally studying either Talmud or medieval biblical exegesis. Which explains why he watches so much MLS, probably. He writes about the Rapids for Around MLS and covers the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the USL for Last Word on Soccer. He also writes for American Soccer Analysis.
