USL single week attendance record set last week

TAMPA, Fla. (May 7, 2018) – The USL single week attendance record was set this past week, the United Soccer League announced today. From Monday, April 30 to Sunday, May 6, over 100,000 fans attended USL games last week.

Beginning last Monday when Real Monarchs SLC opened up Zions Bank Stadium, a record 105,072 fans attended matches in the eighth week of the 2018 USL regular season. The previous record was held by Week 5 of the 2017 season when 94,695 fans attended matches.

FC Cincinnati welcomed ATL UTD 2 to Nippert Stadium, leading the week in attendance with 22,532 fans. USL expansion sides Indy Eleven and Las Vegas Lights FC also had top crowds with 9,008 and 7,777, respectively.

“We are thrilled to have achieved another major landmark for attendance in just our eighth week as support for the league and its clubs continues to rise across North America. The increased visibility of the USL that has been generated by the addition of great new markets, strong national media partnerships and a high level of competition continues to attract new fans to our games. We are very grateful both to our clubs for the hard work and investment they have made to make the live USL match experience authentic and compelling and the passionate fans that continue to bring their support for their clubs each and every week in growing numbers. As a league, our sights are now set even higher to continue the unprecedented success that we have seen this season,” said USL President Jake Edwards.

Week 8 averaged 6,995 fans across all matches. Phoenix Rising FC sold out their Friday night match with 7,332 fans. Midweek Indy and Ottawa Fury FC has impressive crowds of 8,079 and 8,084, respectively. San Antonio FC had one of their larger crowds on Saturday night with 7,342.
