CARSON, Calif. (March 13, 2018) – LA Galaxy II have added reinforcements to the back line, signing defender John Requejo for the 2018 USL season, the club announced today.

LA Galaxy II Sign Defender John Requejo After Three Years With Club Tijuana

The 21-year-old comes to Los Dos after spending three season with Club Tijuana of Liga MX. He played youth soccer at Real So Cal and has no prior affiliation with the LA Galaxy or their academy.

“John is an exciting young prospect that already has a lot of valuable international experience that will be valuable at this level,” said LA Galaxy II Head Coach Mike Muñoz. “He’s an ambitious, modern day left back in the attack with attributes that suite our style well. He’s young and ambitious and I look forward to John getting professional game experience with Los Dos.”

Requejo could not catch on with Xolos, making just two appearances in three seasons with the Liga MX club. Last season he had a quiet loan stint with Dorados de Sinaloa in the Mexican second division.

At the international level, Requejo has represented the United States Men’s National Team at the Under-17 and Under-20 levels. He participated in the 2013 CONCACAF U-17 Championship, U-20 World Cup, and the CONCACAF U-20 Championship as a member of the United States.

Requejo joins Jerfrey Payeras, Jean Jospin Engola, and Nate Schtulz on the LA Galaxy II back line, that has needed reinforcements. The 21-year-old could very well fight for starting minutes in his first season as a full back.

Los Dos open their 2018 United Soccer League season on Saturday at Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC at Weidner Field in Colorado Springs. Kick off is set for 5:00 p.m. PST.
