COMMERCE CITY, CO (December 14, 2017) – The LA Galaxy and Colorado Rapids have made a trade. The Colorado Rapids acquire the rights to forward Jack McBean. In return, the Galaxy get a conditional fourth-round draft pick in the 2019 MLS SuperDraft.

Colorado Rapids Acquire Rights to Forward Jack McBean From LA Galaxy

Jack McBean has been with the LA Galaxy organization his entire career. He was an academy player and signed an MLS Homegrown contract prior to the start of the 2011 season as a teenager. The young No. 9 struggled throughout his career. At one point, he was signed to a USL level contract with LA Galaxy II.

This past season was going to be his big chance to start under former Los Dos Head Coach Curt Onalfo, who was the manager of the first team. McBean played in 18 games, but only managed two goals and an assist in MLS play. Despite playing a career high 715 minutes in league play, McBean would not return for the Galaxy in 2018.

What this means:

McBean wasn’t really given the chance to try and fail for the Galaxy. He only really got regular MLS minutes in 2013 and 2017. He could have taken more advantage of those seasons. He’s still young and has a lot of soccer ahead of him at 22-years-old. I think the change of scenery could do him some good.

The Rapids chose to take a flyer on him. He won’t cost much more than the league minimum salary, so he’s a low risk signing. They didn’t give up much to get him. We’ll have to wait and see what the condition is, it’s probably a performance (staying with the team) condition.

Transaction: LA Galaxy acquire a conditional fourth-round selection in 2019 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for rights to forward Jack McBean.
