US U20s Update: RSL Trio Succeeds

Some US U20 members wrapped up their camp on April 10, returning to their clubs. While in England, they scrimmaged Marlon Fossey and the Fulham U23s, coming away with a 1-0 win. The team also drew 0-0 with Brentford. While these two performances aren’t amazing, many starters were missing. Many of those absent starters put in big individuals performances for their clubs. US U20s Update: RSL Trio Succeeds

College

Jonathan Klinsmann, JT Marcinkowski, Aaron Herrera, Jeremiah Gutjahr, and Eryk Williamson all remain with their respective college teams. After the camp, JT Marcinkowski is spending time with Eintracht Frankfurt on trial.

Injuries

Justen Glad is still out injured. Cameron Carter-Vickers picked up a knee injury during the recent U20 camp. Jonathan Lewis was out for this week with an undisclosed injury.

MLS

Philadelphia Union lost to Portland Timbers 3-1. However, when Derrick Jones exited in the 65th minute, the score was knotted up at one. While in the game, Jones had one key pass, won two aerial duels, and completed three defensive actions (two tackles, one clearance. Overall, not a bad shift for the midfielder. Ideally, he would be able to go the full 90. Jeremy Ebobisse did not appear off the bench for the Timbers.

RSL thrashed Vancouver Whitecaps 3-0 and all three U20 players were involved. Brooks Lennon and Danilo Acosta combined on the right side at right wing and right back respectively. Sebastian Suacedo came off the bench to play left wing. Acosta had the best performance of the three with one key pass, one aerial duel won, and eight defensive actions (three tackles, four interceptions, one clearance). He was also active getting forward with one accurate cross and four accurate long balls. Acosta has an outside chance to make the roster, and this performance will definitely boost his stock.

Lennon continued to be a strong two-way winger with four key passes, two accurate crosses, and three defensive actions (one interception, two clearances). Saucedo also had an impact as a two way winger with one key pass and four defensive actions (two tackles, one interception, one clearance). These performances will help secure their spot in South Korea.

Tommy Redding helped Orlando City defeat Tyler Adams and New York Red Bulls. Redding won one aerial duel, blocked one shot, and had 14 defensive actions (two tackles, four interceptions, eight clearances). However, he struggled going forward with 50% passing accuracy. The U20 pool is very deep at center back, so he will need to improve his passing if he wants to start. Adams put in a solid shift in midfield before being subbed off in the 74th minute. He won two aerial duels and made four defensive actions (three tackles, one clearance). As long as he continues to get minutes, he will be on the roster for South Korea.

USL

Auston Trusty, Coy Craft, and Erik Palmer-Brown were all not in the match day 18 for their respective teams.

Auston Trusty aided Bethlehem Steel’s 2-0 victory over FC Cincinnati. Coy Craft played 60 minutes in OKC Energy’s 1-0 victory over Sacramento Republic FC. He also played 61 minutes in their 1-0 loss to Rio Grande Valley FC. Swope Park Rangers did not have a game this week. However, he will be appearing for them this upcoming weekend.
