LA Galaxy Roster Decisions Continue Busy Offseason

The Galaxy chose to not exercise the contract option for Leonardo. The following players are all out of contract: Landon Donovan, Steven Gerrard, Robbie Keane, Alan Gordon, Jeff Larentowicz, Mike Magee, and Oscar Sorto.

With these roster decisions, the LA Galaxy Roster is currently:

Goalkeepers (3): Brian Rowe, Dan Kennedy, Clement Diop

Defenders (6): A.J. DeLaGarza, Robbie Rogers, Dave Romney, Ashley Cole, Daniel Steres, Jelle Van Damme

Midfielders (5): Rafael Garcia, Baggio Husidic, Sebastian Lletget, Raul Mendiola, Emmanuel Boateng,

Forwards (6): Giovani dos Santos, Bradford Jamieson IV, Jack MicBean, Jose Villarreal, Ariel Lassiter, Gyasi Zardes

Gerrard and Keane will not be returning to the club. Gerrard announced his retirement after the season ended. Keane’s future is unknown, but he will not be playing in LA. It was reported this past week that Donovan is expected to retire.

Gordono, Larentowicz, and Magee are all eligible for free agency. They could still return to the Galaxy, but that will require negotiations. They could also go elsewhere in MLS as free agents. All three are aging veterans and may need to take serious pay cuts to continue to play in the league. This may be required if any wish to return to the LA Galaxy.

Sorto’s future is perhaps the most in flux. The Galaxy could be choosing to part ways with him. The apparent starting left back in waiting has taken years and still can’t crack the Starting XI. He could return to the Galaxy on a lower contract. He could follow McBean’s path of siging with LA Galaxy II. He could also leave the club entirely.
