Jack Harrison on English National Team Radar

According to Jeremy Wilson of the Daily Telegraph, New York City FC winger Jack Harrison is on the radar of the English FA, specifically the U21s. The 19-year-old Harrison has certainly justified a call up. In his rookie season he has three assists and three goals in 16 appearances. He has been one of NYCFC’s most exciting players, and has played much better than his basic stats suggests.

Jack Harrison Background

Harrison was born in Stoke on Trent, England, and he was raised in Bolton. From 2003-2010, he was part of the Manchester United Academy. At age 14, he made a bold decision to come to America and play at the Berkshire School in Sheffield, Massachusetts. While in high school, he received the Gatorade National Player of the Year Award. Then he went to Wake Forest and was taken number one overall by NYCFC.

Current England U21 Squad

The England U21 squad is one of the top U21 teams in the world. The most recent squad includes players who start in the Premier League, like Marcus Rashford of Manchester United, Nathan Redmond of Southampton, Demarai Gray of Leicester City, and Mason Holgate of Everton. Some players also feature in the Championship, like Jack Grealish of Aston Villa. This squad is a very talented squad and would be hard to break into. Even getting a call up would be a great feat. England U21’s next match is the beginning of October, UEFA U21 Championships Qualifiers.
Playing for the England U21s would be a great step for him and most likely take him away from joining the USMNT. It might eventually cause him to leave NYCFC since he would likely draw the interest of bigger clubs on the other side of the pond. However, it would be a great move for his career.
