AEW Homecoming Results: In-Depth Match Analysis
Malakai Black vs. Cody Rhodes
Domination. Destruction. Darkness. These three words perfectly define what the main event of AEW Dynamite: Homecoming was Wednesday night. In the first match for Malakai Black in AEW, he destroyed Cody Rhodes in every single way possible. From destroying his left knee to sending him crashing down through a table on the outside, it seemed as though Rhodes had nothing in the tank to counter “House of Black” and all that comes with it. “The Dutch Destroyer” made all of those who doubted him a believer in one night as a swift Black Mass Kick to the head of Rhodes and a disrespectful one-foot pin made it clear that the darkness wins out.
Out of all the debut matches in the history of AEW, this very well may have been the most perfect. There was not a single moment that Black felt like he didn’t have control and this was against one of AEW’s top talents. The closing image of the match with him standing tall was not only the perfect idea to finish off the run at Daily’s Place moving forward, but instantly established that Black is a main event star in AEW moving forward. Who can stop him, if anyone, is now the question at hand. From his presentation to the match itself, it was everything one could ask for in making a star. A perfect debut for Malakai Black.
