New Japan Pro Wrestling (NJPW) announced on Friday that they will be postponing both the Yokohama Stadium and Tokyo Dome Wrestle Grand Slam shows scheduled for later this month on May 15 and 29. The announcement comes on the heels of Japan’s current state of emergency. NJPW has stated that they are working to finalize new dates for both events in the future. The main event of the Tokyo Dome show is scheduled to see Will Ospreay defend his IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Kazuchika Okada.

The state of emergency in Japan limits the number of people able to attend live events, setting the number at 50 percent or 5,000 people, whichever comes first. This, of course, has led NJPW to wait until more fans can attend their show with hopes of being able to pack both stadiums when the time comes. IWGP World Heavyweight Champion Will Ospreay responded to the postponement by saying that the move was made to protect Okada, who had been removed from night two of Wrestling Dontaku for reasons not specified.
It’s gotta be said….
While I understand it’s about safety for 1 man this is a giant excuse. https://t.co/snNA6DtTIb pic.twitter.com/iER4jF97yA

NJPW noted that it will make an announcement on the new dates for the events soon. There is no word on the Road To Wrestle Grand Slam shows as of this writing.
