According to Dave Meltzer and the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, current Full Impact Pro Champion Fred Yehi is expected to become the next EVOLVE wrestler to sign with the WWE and report to the WWE Performance Center, most likely to debut with NXT. The Georgia native has been wrestling for five years, debuting with EVOLVE in 2015, as well one of it’s sister promotions, Full Impact Pro (FIP), the following year. He’s currently on the verge of a 500-day reign as the FIP World Heavyweight Champion.
Thanks in part to WWE’s affiliation with World Wrestling Network (WWN), the parent company that controls EVOLVE, FIP and others, Yehi has been on the WWE’s radar for some time. He took part in a WWE Cruiserweight Classic qualifier in EVOLVE last spring, losing to eventual winner TJ Perkins. During his run in EVOLVE, Yehi was a member of the popular faction Catch Point, that featured current WWE Superstars Drew Gulak and TJ Perkins, as well as Matt Riddle, Chris Dickinson, Jaka and Tracey Williams (with whom Yehi held the EVOLVE Tag Team titles).
If reports prove to be accurate, Yehi will join Lio Rush, Donovan Dijak and Shayna Baszler as the latest top indie signings with the NXT brand.
