“The Archer of Infamy” can officially live forever. At NXT TakeOver: XXX, Damian Priest defeated four other competitors in a ladder match to win the vacant NXT North American Championship. It was a long time coming for Priest, who had come close in multiple attempts for the championship in prior months. This is Priest’s first championship since signing with WWE in 2018.

Priest managed to win the championship after all five men had multiple attempts to bring down the strap swinging high above the ring. The finish to the match came as both Priest and Johnny Gargano pulled onto the title. The new champion managed to kick Gargano, loosening his grip and ultimately sending him crashing down to the mat in defeat while Priest became immortal as the champion.
We wouldn’t have got here if the now-former NXT Champion Keith Lee hadn’t relinquished the North American Championship a month ago so that new competitors could make a name for themselves. His graciousness led to a stellar ladder match that included Candice LeRae pulling some jaw-dropping moves in her effort to try and help her husband Gargano pull it out.
Time will tell as to what is next for Priest and the losers of the match. One would have to think that the likes of Gargano, Bronson Reed, and Cameron Grimes will be interested in getting another shot after barely coming up short. Reed does have a singles win over Priest, giving him the edge to get a title shot if that were the way to go.
No matter who steps up, Priest will be celebrating like a champion until his number is called to make his first defense.
It’s good to be the champ. Congratulations to the NEW @WWENXT North American Champion, @ArcherOfInfamy! #ThePoint #NXTTakeOver pic.twitter.com/nrdZi8KG5B
