Preview: Glory Pro – Peace Up, A-Town Down (8/1/20)

UPDATE: On Wednesday, July 29, Glory Pro announced that “due to the new restrictions imposed by St. Louis County, effective 8/1, we have to cancel Peace Up, A-Town Down” and that “Refunds will be sent out through TicketLeap.”

Glory Pro Wrestling makes its first return from the COVID shutdown since March’s 3rd Anniversary Show this Saturday as they return with Peace Up, A-Town Down, and live wrestling returns to St. Louis, Missouri. All Glory Pro’s titles are being defended, plus we’re guaranteed brand new United Glory tag team champions after Halal Beefcake was forced to vacate their titles. Peace Up, A-Town Down will be streaming live on IndependentWrestling.tv (IWTV) on Saturday at 5pm CDT/6pm EST.

Ethan Price vs. Kody Lane

Ethan Price is a product of the vibrant Texas indie scene with the likes of Anarchy Championship Wrestling (ACW), Inspire Pro, Heavy Metal Wrestling, and WrestleCircus, who has successfully moved into other regions like Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment (AWE), Chicago’s AAW Pro, and Canada’s Alpha-1. He made his Glory Pro debut in 2018 and is continuing to find his spot on the ladder, and on Saturday he’s facing another Texas product in Kody Lane. Lane has risen through many of the same Texas indies as Price, but he’s been integrating into some of the more Southern promotions like St. Louis Anarchy, and into the Midwest with AAW, Freelance Wrestling, Black Label Pro, and IWA Mid South. Earlier this year, Lane just narrowly lost in his bid to become the Glory Pro Midwest Champion, after he defeated champion Hakim Zane (IMPACT’s Rohit Raju) by disqualification. These two will be looking to make Texas proud, but make no mistake, both want the win to advance the ladder in Glory Pro.

JJ Garrett vs. Paco

Iowa’s JJ Garrett got his start in 2012 with his home state 3XW Wrestling, but soon began appearing for Beyond Wrestling, IWA Mid South, Freelance Wrestling, and last year made his debut with Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), ACTION Wrestling, and Glory Pro. A former IWA Mid South Heavyweight Champion, Garrett is going one-on-one with one of the Chicago area’s most underrated young stars in PACO, who has been a regular with the likes of AAW since 2014. PACO has also been one Glory Pro’s top stars since he debuted in 2017, the former St. Louis Anarchy Gateway Heritage Champion and AAW Heritage Champion is still looking for his breakout moment in Glory Pro.

Karam vs. Dan the Dad

Karam is a relative newcomer in comparison to some names on the card, wrestling primarily with AAW and EVOLVE Wrestling over the past year, but in Glory Pro he’s become somewhat of an enforcer for Midwest Champion Hakim Zane. On Saturday, he’s stepping into the Glory Pro ring to face Dan the Dad, in a chance to prove his own dominance in Glory Pro. Dan the Dad (formerly Danny Adams) is a Glory Pro regular from St. Louis, who saw a career change late last year as he morphed into the father figure of the Midwest indies after years in the hellish No New Friends stable that terrorized the likes of Glory Pro, Freelance, and Black Label Pro. While his character change may not seem that threatening, don’t be fooled – he’s a former United Glory Tag Team Champion alongside Kevin Lee Davidson and former St. Louis Anarchy Gateway Champion, and he’s the reigning Alpha-1 Zero Gravity Champion out of Canada.

Laynie Luck vs. Kylie Rae

Kansas City’s Laynie Luck has been on a rise the past year and it comes with just rewards – she’s the reigning Zelo Pro Women’s Champion and ZOWA Women’s Champion in the Illinois scene. She came up through the Texas indies with ACW, Inspire Pro, and Booker T‘s Reality of Wrestling (ROW), and in the past year has seen her star blossom with the likes of Freelance Wrestling, SHIMMER, AAW, RISE Wrestling, and countless others. On Saturday, she’s facing a huge test in Kylie Rae, the #1 Contender to the IMPACT Knockouts Championship in IMPACT Wrestling, but Kylie is someone that Laynie knows well – they both first met in the Texas indies in 2017, and have competed nearly a dozen times since then, most recently this past December in Minnesota with Midwest All-Star Wrestling (MAW). But they’re also good friends, regularly competing together in the tag team Just Peachy, so this will be an emotional competition and one that Laynie needs to win – Kylie Rae holds a distinct win advantage over Luck (although Laynie defended her Zelo Pro title against Kylie at IMPACT’s All Glory special last October).

Jake Something vs. 1 Called Manders

Photo: Glory Pro

Jake Something (also known as Cousin Jake in IMPACT Wrestling) is somewhat of a Gatekeeper in Glory Pro, where he’s wrestled since Glory Pro’s creation in 2017. That October, he won the top prize in the company, the Crown of Glory Championship, and held it for 279-days. The big man is facing one of the top hosses in the game right now in Iowa’s 1 Called Manders, who has made a huge impression over the past year with GCW, Black Label Pro, IWA Mid South, and in his home promotion of SCW Pro, where’s he’s the reigning SCW Heavyweight Champion.

Midwest Territory Championship: Hakim Zane (c) vs. Mike Outlaw vs. Myron Reed vs. Devon Moore

Hakim Zane may have snuck out of the 3rd Anniversary Show with his Midwest Territory Championship (he was DQ’d yet retained), but it’s going to be a much harder contest this time around, as he suits up against three outstanding talents in a four-way match on Saturday. Mike Outlaw has been a huge part of the Glory Pro tag team scene as part of No New Friends, but he’s also a singles star in St. Louis’ Dynamo Pro, where he’s a former 2x Dynamo Pro Heavyweight Champion. Myron Reed is one of the fastest rising names out of the Midwest right now, making his GCW debut recently while also being a former Crown of Glory Champion. He’s also the reigning World Middleweight Champion in Major League Wrestling (MLW). Devon Monroe is only a 2-year pro out of Minnesota, a graduate of Ken Anderson‘s Academy, who has learned his craft in MAW and F1RST Wrestling in the Minnesota area. He’s breaking further east into the Midwest scene of late, with Glory Pro, Freelance, and RISE, and this is a huge opportunity for the youngster to turn some more heads.

United Glory Tag Team Championship for Vacant Titles: Alpha Omega (Kenny Alfonso & Camaro Jackson) vs. Top Flight (Air Wolf & Angel Dorado)

Photo: Glory Pro

Top Flight (formerly known as the Flip Bros) were originally scheduled to face United Glory Champions Halal Beefcake (Idris Abraham & Joe Coleman), but the champs recently had to vacate their titles due to personal reasons. That opened up the doors for brand new tag team champions in Glory Pro, as Top Flight’s Air Wolf & Angel Dorado will now face another hot young team in Alpha Omega‘s Kenny Alfonso & Camaro Jackson. Both of these teams are the future of tag team wrestling in the US indies and that future is about to start on Saturday as one of them becomes the new United Glory Champions.

Crown of Glory Championship: AJ Gray (c) vs. Kevin Lee Davidson

Photo: Glory Pro

AJ Gray has become one of the US indies top stars in just over a year, rising to become GCW World Champion, Black Label Pro Midwest Champion, and currently the reigning Crown of Glory Champion, just recently passing 300-days. He’s putting it all on the line on Saturday as he defends his title against another of the No New Friends crew in Kevin Lee Davidson, a former United Glory champion who is now looking to make a bold statement to the rest of the roster as a singles competitor.
