Indie Veterans Beaver Boys Work MSG in WWE Match

On Tuesday night’s SmackDown Live from Madison Square Garden in New York, Heavy Machinery defeated another squad of “local talent” in Johnny Silver and Alex Keaton for a quick victory. But long-time indie fans recognized the opponents as New York indie veterans The Beaver Boys – featuring reigning Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) World Heavyweight Champion John Silver and his longtime partner Alex Reynolds.

The two New York City wrestlers began working together as the Slophunters in 2011, working with NYC’s New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC) and Delaware’s East Coast Wrestling Association (ECWA). In 2013, they renamed themselves the Beaver Boys, where they’ve become one of the top indie tag teams on the East Coast, working with Beyond Wrestling, Ring of Honor, CZW, EVOLVE Wrestling, CHIKARA, and more, as well as stints on the West Coast with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla (PWG). They’re former PWG, CZW and NYWC Tag Team Champions. The duo’s last match together was this past July in a dark match for EVOLVE 131, the 10th Anniversary event that aired on the WWE Network, defeating Milk Chocolate (Brandon Watts & Randy Summers).

It’s the third WWE appearance for John Silver, who faced Lars Sullivan on NXT TV last year, and teamed with Dan Delaney in a handicap squash match against Ryback at No Way Out in 2012. Alex Reynolds previously lost to Kane on Main Event in 2016, and appeared on 205 Live in 2017 in a loss to Akira Tozawa. This was their first time appearing for the WWE as The Beaver Boys, and to have it happen at MSG must have been a great thrill to two longtime New Yorkers. The shock was so overwhelming that for a brief moment, Beaver Boys was actually trending in the US, causing at least one non-wrestling fan to worry about it’s actual meaning.
