Preview: Stardom – Big Summer In Tokyo (7/24/19)

Stardom returns to Korakuen Hall off the back of some loaded “Big Summer” shows as both the World Of Stardom Championship and Wonder Of Stardom Championship will be defended on this show.  Big Summer In Tokyo promises to be another really good Stardom show.

Oedo Tai (Natsuko Tora & Natsu Sumire) vs Queen’s Quest (Leo Onozaki & Hina) vs Tokyo Cyber Squad (Ruaka & Rina)

This is a definite win for Oedo Tai’s duo.  Natsu Sumire will be sure to voice her displeasure at being against mere rookies but you can be sure they’ll give her a run for her money as usual.  It is possible that Onozaki or Ruaka will get a win but you could bet your house on Oedo Tai winning this one.

Utami Hayashishita vs Saya Iida vs Jamie Hayter

At WrestleQueendom 2 Jamie Hayter pinned Hayashishita and won the EVE International championship.  Now Hayter comes to Stardom ahead of her participation in Stardom’s 5 Star Grand Prix and faces a big challenge in Hayashishita and Iida. Iida has been in many matches like this and always gives a good account of herself but never comes out with a win.  Hayashishita is still one of the most protected roster members in Stardom so her winning wouldn’t be a surprise especially with Iida there to take the loss

STARS (Mayu Iwatani, Saki Kashima, Tam Nakano & Starlight Kid) vs Tokyo Cyber Squad (Hana Kimura, Bobbi Tyler, Zoe Lucas & Death Yama-San)

A midcard squad battle that is sure to be fun but won’t blow anyone away.  Tokyo Cyber Squad has more potential pin eaters on their team so expect a STARS win here.

Goddesses Of Stardom Championships: Tokyo Cyber Squad (Jungle Kyona & Konami) (C) vs Oedo Tai (Kagetsu & Andras Miyagi)

When this match was first announced it was simply a battle between two rival factions.  After Stardom’s previous Big Summer shows this is now a tag team championship match between the newly crowned champions Konami and Jungle Kyona and two-thirds of the new Artist Of Stardom Champions Miyagi and Kagetsu.  Kagetsu and Andras are Oedo Tai’s most protected performers so a win here wouldn’t be the most shocking result in the world but this feels like an opportunity to give Konami and Kyona a big win in their first defense to establish themselves as a major tag team in Stardom.

Wonder Of Stardom Championship: Arisa Hoshiki (C) vs Hazuki

With Hazuki coming off of a six month run as High-Speed champion she will be looking to replace the title she just lost with Hoshiki’s white belt.  Despite very little actual build these two have managed to inject a lot of vitriol into this match with every minor interaction so this should be another violent title clash in Hoshiki’s run as Wonder Of Stardom champion.  Hazuki seems to be firmly in the midcard-upper midcard so she usually loses matches like this but you can never put anything past her.

World Of Stardom Championship: Bea Priestley (C) vs Momo Watanabe

A QQ vs QQ match here as Priestley defends against her stablemate Watanabe.  If asked which member of Queen’s Quest would claim the Red Belt most fans would have gone with Momo Watanabe.  The new ace of Stardom had a dominant run as Wonder Of Stardom champion after dethroning Io Shirai and made the White Belt almost as (if not more) prestigious than Stardom’s number one title.  It is only a matter of time before Watanabe wins the World Of Stardom title but Priestley will do everything in her power to not lose the title this soon after winning it.  Both Priestley and Watanabe are booked very strong in Stardom and a clean finish ahead of 5 Star GP might not come to fruition so a time limit draw is a possibility here as Stardom hold off on giving Watanabe the title so soon after losing the Wonder Of Stardom championship.
