While All Elite Wrestling (AEW) is stacked with well-known names like Chris Jericho, Jon Moxley, Kenny Omega, Cody Rhodes and The Young Bucks, it’s also proven to be open to pushing emerging new talents from regional indie scenes as well. From West Coast stars like Jungle Boy, Luchasaurus and Peter Avalon, to Joshi talents that are barely known outside of Japan, AEW has shown it is willing to platform these new talents to their fullest potential. On Saturday night at AEW Fyter Fest, there were several instances of this philosophy, but one of the true standouts came in the first match of the pre-show, The Buy In. In a three way match to determine the first tag team to enter the First Round Bye Match for the upcoming AEW World Tag Team title tournament, SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky) and Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Baretta) went to war in a match that saw Best Friends pull off the win and head to AEW All Out. But it was the third team, New York indie tag team Private Party (Marq Quen & Isiah Kennedy) that wowed the crowd at CEO in Daytona Beach, Florida, with multiple “PRIVATE PARTY” chants echoing throughout the Ocean Center throughout the near duration of the match. With their reliance on pure tag team wrestling, with a heavy dose of tag team tandem offense and some truly innovative team moves, Private Party emerged as one of the stars of the pre-show and a glimpse into the future of AEW’s tag team division.

Private Party features two young men from the New York City area, who both found their footing early with Amazing Red‘s House of Glory in NYC. Marq Quen started first, debuting in 2012, where he also worked for New England Frontier Wrestling (NEFW). Quen started off in a tag team then as well, but it was in the team Tru-Talent alongside Alex Reyes, and in December of 2012, they captured the NEFW Tag Team titles. Tru-Talent seemed to have all the tools and in 2013, they won a three-way tag match in HOG against The Young Bucks and a reunited Brian Kendrick & Paul London. But by the end of 2013, Tru-Talent was over, and Quen entered into singles competition. As he was building his own singles reputation, he would also work in several other tag team combinations, such as One Night Only (with Anthony Gangone) and The Highspot Heroes (with Smiley). Until the summer of 2015, when he met a new HOG recruit name Isiah Kennedy.
At HOG At Last, Quen and Kennedy teamed up together as Private Party for the first time, and since then, have become one of the top tag teams in the New York area. They’ve had battles with LAX (Santana & Ortiz) – when they were still known as EYFBO – as well as The Hardy Boyz, Da Hit Squad (Dan Maff & Monsta Mack), The Dudley Boyz, The Beaver Boys (John Silver & Alex Reynolds), The Ugly Ducklings (Lance Rude & Rob Killjoy), Psicosis & Super Crazy, The Hooligans (Devin & Mason Cutter), The Rascalz (in various tandems featuring Zachary Wentz, Trey Miguel & Myron Reed), To Infinity And Beyond (Colin Delaney & Cheech), and many more, cementing themselves as one of the most versatile tandems on the US indies. They’re 5x tag team champions, capturing titles in HOG as well as Fight The World (FTW) Wrestling, Game Changer Wrestling (GCW), Pro Wrestling Magic (PWM), and Warriors of Wrestling (WOW).
In April, it was announced that Private Party had signed with AEW and at AEW Double or Nothing, they made their AEW debut on The Buy-In as part of the Casino Battle Royale. But they were entered as singles competitors. The true magic of what Private Party was still on standstill. Until Saturday night. With a series of moves that thrilled and dropped jaws around the Ocean Center at home, Private Party announced themselves to the world. And showed a glimpse of what youthful promise the AEW tag team division is building towards.
