Preview: Pro Wrestling EVE – Wrestle Queendom 2 (6/30/19)

England’s Pro Wrestling EVE has emerged as one of the top women’s promotions on the planet, featuring a who’s who of UK, Ireland, and European grapplers, plus the best from Japan (Stardom, Sendai Girls, and more) as well as various US stars, such as IMPACT Wrestling‘s Jordynne Grace and Su Yung, amongst others. Last year, they launched their first flagship event, Wrestle Queendom, which proved to be a huge success, so naturally a return is happening this year. For the first time, Wrestle Queendom 2 will air LIVE on EVE’s on-demand service this Sunday at 4pm BST (11am EST). EVE has two other live lead-in shows on their service, with Friday’s She Brawls in Brighton and Saturday’s She’s Gonna Start a Fight (2:30pm BST/9:30am EST).

For the most part, EVE keeps the cards tight to their chest, so you just have to tune in to see what sort of magical match-ups you’ll be treated to, but they rarely disappoint. But here’s a look at some of the marquee matches for Wrestle Queendom 2 that have been announced.

Su Yung vs. “Session Moth” Martina

Former IMPACT Knockouts Champion Su Yung continues to wreak havoc around the world outside of IMPACT Wrestling, and on Sunday the Undead Bride will be facing a Session Moth. Martina has become one of the biggest stars of the UK and Irish indie scene and this year has been breaking into the US as well. She recently had a WWE Tryout and reports are claiming she’s NXT UK bound, but on Sunday, she’ll be checking to see if it’s proper to bants with the undead.

Jordynne Grace vs. Laura Di Matteo

Another IMPACT Knockout competing on Sunday, Jordynne Grace has been slowly infiltrating the UK for the past year, working with EVE on multiple occasions as well as being a former PROGRESS Women’s Champion. “Thick Mama Pump” will be stepping into the ring on Sunday against one of the toughest pound-for-pound wrestlers in the UK in Laura Di Matteo, another top-level indie star in the UK.

Wonder of Stardom Championship: Arisa Hoshiki (c) vs. Little Miss Roxxy

Japan’s Stardom has sent multiple stars to EVE for this weekend, and on Sunday recently crowned Wonder of Stardom Champion Arisa Hoshiki will make her first title defense on English soil. The 23-year old will be heading to London to defend her white belt against England’s own Little Miss Roxxy, a former Tidal Championship Wrestling (TCW) Women’s Champion and reigning Main Event Wrestling (MEW) Women’s Champion.

EVE Tag Team Championship (To Crown Inaugural Champions): Madusa Complex (Charli Evans & Millie McKenzie) vs. Wrestle Friends (Erin Angel & Jetta)

EVE is finally introducing EVE Tag Team Championships, and the inaugural champions will be crowned this Sunday. The Madusa Complex, featuring Australian indie star Charli Evans and England’s Millie McKenzie, are already a championship caliber duo – they are the current reigning Sendai Girls Tag Team Champions in Japan. They face one of EVE’s longtime duos, the mentor-protegee tandem of Jetta and her pupil, Erin Angel.

Kagetsu vs. Mayu Iwatani

In a special Stardom showcase match, two former World of Stardom Champions collides as Odei Tai‘s Kagetsu and STARS‘ Mayu Iwatani lock horns once again in what could be the show stealer.

EVE International Championship Triple Threat: Utami Hayashita (c) vs. Jamie Hayter vs. Nina Samuels

Stardom’s super rookie Utami Hayashishita is barely 20 years old, but she’s currently holding four belts, three with Stardom. The reigning Future of Stardom Champion, SWA Undisputed World Women’s Champion and Goddesses of Stardom (Tag Team) Champion (beside Momo Watanabe), she’s defending her EVE International Championship against two of the UK’s top stars. Nina Samuels is a former EVE Champion who is beginning to make some headway as part of NXT UK, while Jamie Hayter is a former RevPro Women’s Champion now in her second year working with Stardom.

EVE Championship Match: Kay Lee Ray (c) vs. Viper

It’s a huge main event as EVE Champion Kay Lee Ray and her longtime best friend Viper clash for the EVE Championship. An interesting match-up, as both are now active members of NXT UK as well (Viper competing as Piper Niven), but both have long histories with EVE. These are two of the best women wrestlers on the planet and these two Scottish stars – affectionately known as the Disnae Give A Fuck Princesses – are sure to put on another classic at Wrestle Queendom 2 in what is surely one of their last meetings on the UK indies.
