This Friday night in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Gimmick Tree Entertainment, in association with Modern Vintage Wrestling (MVW) and IMPACT Wrestling, presents the first annual Bruiser Brody Cup tournament, airing live on Fite.tv. It features several opening matchups featuring some up and coming indie stars, plus two Fatal 4-Way Semi Final matches to set the final matchup, plus a hardcore showdown and an MVW Championship match. This Bruiser Brody Cup has no relation to the tour of the same name that ran in Puerto Rico with the World Wrestling Council (WWC) in 2005 and 2006.
Andrew Palace vs. Xzagon
Pittsburgh’s Andrew Palace is a 7-year pro who has cut his teeth primarily with International Wrestling Cartel (IWC) where he’s a 2x IWC Super Indy Champion and last year held the IWC World Heavyweight Championship as well. He also competes out of Cleveland’s Premier Championship Wrestling (PCW), where’s a former PCW Champion as well. Not much is known of the masked Xzagon, so this will be a huge opportunity for the emerging wrestler to make a name for himself.
Monsta Mack & MAGIC (w/ Felicia Rose) vs. Tommy Moose & Chris Banks
Monsta Mack and his mentor, MAGIC, are a couple of bad dudes from New York City coming to the Bruiser Brody Cup event to show they can roughhouse like Bruiser himself. Monsta Mack is best known for his tag team Da Hit Squad alongside “Mafia” Dan Maff, with whom he’s a 6x Jersey All Pro Wrestling (JAPW) Tag Team Champion, 3x Jersey Championship Wrestling (JCW) Tag Team Champion, and Combat Zone Wrestling (CZW) Tag Team Champion. He’s teaming with his trainer, 54-year old MAGIC, a 4x NWA New York Heavyweight Champion and legend of the New York indie scene. They face off against two other indie stars from the area in “The Orange Avenger” Tommy Moose, a former Superstars of Wrestling Federation (SWF) Heavyweight Champion, and “Mr. No Limits” Chris Banks, who’s been a staple with Warriors of Wrestling (WOW) out of NYC, where he’s a 5x WOW No Limits Champion.
6-Pack Challenge: Jaxon Stone vs. Brandon Scott vs. Zane Dawson vs. John Skyler vs. Colby Corino vs. Ricky Reyes
A huge 6-man matchup featuring a smattering of indie stars, veteran and rising. Texas’ Jaxon Stone is an emerging star who’s branching beyond his Texas roots, making a name for himself in NOVA Pro, IWA Mid South, America’s Most Liked (AML) Wrestling, CZW and more. Brandon Scott is a 12-year veteran who’s a regular with MCW Pro (formerly Maryland Championship Wrestling), while Zane Dawson leaves the comfort of his multi-time champion tag team with his brother, Dave Dawson (who is competing in one of the semi-final matches), to go it alone. John Skyler is a veteran of the Carolinas indie scene and former 2x Premier Wrestling Xperience (PWX) Champion, while Colby Corino (son of former ECW World Champion Steve Corino) is emerging as a star in his own right. The sixth man in the match is 20-year veteran Ricky Reyes, a former Ring of Honor Tag Team Champion (with Rocky Romero in the Havana Pitbulls) who has had a career resurgence the past few years as part of Lucha Underground.
No DQ Match: Mecha Mercenary vs. Abyss
North Carolina’s Mecha Mercenary has been terrorizing the Mid Atlantic area since 2010, where he’s a regular with Carolina Wrestling Federation (CWF) Mid Atlantic. Although he’s more known for his tag team wrestling, on Friday he faces IMPACT Hall of Famer and former NWA World’s Heavyweight Champion Abyss in a No DQ, No Count Out match up that fits right into the late Bruiser Brody’s wheelhouse. These two will stop at nothing to get their arm raised at the end of the match so expect something vicious that Frank Goodish would be proud of.
Bruiser Brody Cup Semi-Finals Fatal 4-Way: Dave Dawson vs. DJ Hyde vs. Tommy Dreamer vs. Stockade
The first semi-final Fatal 4-Way to determine the first finalist for the Bruiser Brody Cup features a real cross-section of stars. Dave Dawson is another CWF Mid Atlantic regular, best known as being one half of The Dawsons tag team with his brother Zane Dawson. Former CWF Mid Atlantic Tag Team Champions and reigning AML Tag Team Champions, Dawson will be going this one alone. CZW owner and staple DJ Hyde will also be in this contest, and the former 3x CZW Iron Man Champion and Rockstar Pro Champion will be out to prove that this 40-year old still has it. But Hyde isn’t even the oldest man in the match. ECW Original and former ECW World Heavyweight Champion Tommy Dreamer is a cut from Bruiser Brody’s cloth and he’ll be looking to bring the Extreme to this four-way battle. The last entrant in this semi-final matchup is New York indie veteran Stockade, who’s been a regular brawler with New York Wrestling Connection (NYWC), where he’s a 2x NYWC Heavyweight Champion and 4x NYWC Tag Team Champion. Last year he captured the Hardcore Hustle Organization (H2O) Heavyweight Championship as well.
Bruiser Brody Cup Semi-Finals Fatal 4-Way: Beastman vs. Sami Callihan vs. Matt Tremont vs. Michael Elgin
The second semi-final Fatal 4-Way will have just as much violence and heavy-hitting as the first, and potentially more so. Beast Man is a 12-year veteran out of darkest West Virginia who competes for Pennsylvania’s Fight Society (FS) where he recently won the FS Championship. The West Virginia wildman will have his hands full with the other three men in this encounter. Sami Callihan is no stranger to violence and the IMPACT Wrestling star has been a wrecking machine on the indies the past year, where he’s the reigning 3x All American Wrestling (AAW) Heavyweight Champion and a continuing “Draw” around the country. “Bulldozer” Matt Tremont, a former CZW World Champion and Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) World Champion, is one of the most dangerous men on the planet. Rounding out the foursome is former ROH World Champion and IWGP Intercontinental Champion Michael Elgin.
MVW Heavyweight Championship: Joey Lynch (c) vs. Eddie Edwards
Rossville, Georgia’s Joey Lynch is set to defend his MVW Heavyweight Championship on Friday, as his strong run of late continues. One of the top indie stars of the Southern wrestling revival, he’s a regular competitor for ACTION Wrestling, Next Generation Wrestling (NGW), Glory Pro and Southern Underground Pro (SUP), and the winner of the 2018 Scenic City Invitational Tournament, not to mention his tag team with brother Matt in The Lynch Mob. His challenger on Friday is no slouch though, and it’s former IMPACT World Champion Eddie Edwards, who has discovered a rather vicious streak in the past year thanks to encounters with Sami Callihan, Tommy Dreamer, and Moose of late. Edwards won’t make this title defense easy and will be looking to bring home more gold.
