Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre will have their biggest event this year. CMLL’s 85th Anniversary show promises a Lucha de Apuestas Tag Team match between Volador Jr. & Matt Taven vs. Rush & Barbaro Cavernario. The show will be at 8:30 pm est. and will open up with a female trios match.
The show had some backlash in the press conference when the main event was announced. Fans in Mexico were expecting to have Rush vs. LA Park in a hair vs. mask match, but, instead, CMLL went with a tag team match that didn’t involved the hottest rivalry in CMLL this year. Moreover, Mr. Niebla, one of CMLL most beloved veterans will miss the show due to his suspended wrestling license and ban from Mexico City.
Here’s a preview of the longest running annual show in wrestling today.
Marcela, Princesa Sugehit & La Jarochita vs. Dalys, La Maligna & Reyna Isis
The opener involves a former WWE Mae Young Classic participant Princesa Sugehit, CMLL World Women’s Champion Dalys and rising star Reina Isis. The women here are solid, but CMLL has been very inept in handling them. The match is supposed to start the show, but that’s it. Is not to get the fans pump or anything else. There’s a three veteran women in this ring and three promising talents with Reina Isis, La Maligna & Jarochita.
Angel de Oro, Audaz & Niebla Roja vs. Negro Casas, Felino & Mephisto
This was the match that Mr. Niebla was supposed to join. This is a young vs. old school match, involving the always great Negro Casas with his brother Felino and Mephisto as a substitute. Angel de Oro and company have the youth and will put to the test that they are key parts in CMLL and part of the rising youth that’s going to carry CMLL in the future. Niebla Roja main evented last year Aniversario when he lost his mask against Gran Guerrero. Angel de Oro lost his mask this year against Cuatrero in Homenaje a Dos Leyendas.
Mistico, Atlantis & Soberano vs. Los Nuevos Dinamitas (Cuatrero, Sanson & Forastero)
The National Trios Champion, Los Nuevos Dinamitas, in honor of their family heritage of Universo 2000, Cien Caras & Mascara Año 2000 as the Original Hermanos Dinamitas. This is a test for the rising trio. Cuatrero is probably one of the best prospects in CMLL, while Forastero and Sanson can follow too. The técnico side involves Mistico II, who will wrestle alongside the legend himself Atlantis and new comer Soberano. This will be a solid match, probably the first good match of the night.
CMLL World Trios Championship: Los Guerreros Laguneros (Ultimo Guerrero, Gran Guerrero & Euforia) (C) vs. Klan Kaoz (El Zorro, Cibernetico & Sharly Rockstar
There’s uncertainty in this match since El Zorro was fired from his own company in Mexico, Kaoz Lucha Libre. Los Guerreros Laguneros are a formidable unit, with vast experience and real rudo heat. Gran Guerrero main evented last year at Aniversario 84, while Ultimo Guerrero is remembered for being unmasked by Atlantis. Cibernetico and crew have been running wild since joining CMLL, but haven’t gotten the response that the company expected. The match could be one of the last matches of the unit itself (Kaoz).
Caristico, LA Park & Hijo de LA Park vs. Diamante Azul & Lucha Brothers (Pentagon Jr. & Rey Fenix)
A show stealer right here, this is going to be wild. Probably one of the last appearances of the Lucha Bros in CMLL. The match promises a lot of insane action, great outside brawling and a cero-miedo climate. The members of this match like Caristico, La Park, Fenix and Pentagon Jr. carry a lot of response and heat from the crowd, expect to see a really hot crowd for this one.
Hair vs. Hair: Volador Jr. & Matt Taven vs. Rush & Barbaro Cavernario
At last, the main event that many Mexicans didn’t ask for. On one side, Ring of Honor‘s Matt Taven, who’s be carving a space as CMLL’s resident outsider. Plus, Volador Jr., who at one point this year told Caristico that his hair had more value that his mask, will have to join forces with the ROH Triple Crown to retain their hair and not get shaved in front of a sold-out crowd. On the other side of the ring, CMLL’s hottest rudo and most promising star, Los Ingobernables founder Rush. Moreover, Barbaro Cavernario, a promising rudo too that was inserted in this feud with the injury of El Terrible.
The question remains, Who will lose their hair? The match will have a lot of heat and a lot of suspense. It should be fun seeing how the end unfolds and a pair of wrestlers get their hair shaved.
