BREAKING: Kazuchika Okada to Wrestle in CMLL Next Week

One of the best wrestlers in the world, 4x IWGP Heavyweight Champion Kazuchika Okada will wrestle in Mexico for Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre on August 18

The announcement was confirmed by CMLL wrestler Okamura, who said “more surprises were coming” for the number one promotion in Mexico. The announcement was later confirmed by CMLL, who didn’t specified if Okada was wrestling in a tag team match or in a singles match.

This marks the first time that Kazuchika Okada will compete for CMLL. While many New Japan Pro Wrestling stars like Los Ingobernables de Japón leader Tetsuya Naito mastered their craft in CMLL in the past, Okada’s appearances in Mexico came by the hand of Ultimo Dragon’s Turyomon. In Arena Mexico, this is Okada’s fourth appearance.

A More Open CMLL

The news come in a time were CMLL has been making interesting decisions. Last week, the Mexican promotion brought to their Arena Mexico show the Ring of Honor World Tag Team Champions The Briscoe to team with Rush. Moreover, ROH star Matt Taven wrestled Volador Jr. in a match were The Kingdom leader lost his priced NWA World Historic Welterweight championship. With the Okada announcement, it appears CMLL is finally taking full advantage of their inclusion in the IWGP Conception and their alliances with NJPW and ROH.

The company surprised everybody when LA Park was brought back to start a feud with Los Ingobernables leader Rush. Even more surprising was the debuts of indie wrestling favorites and Mexican supernovas Rey Fenix and Pentagon Jr

The once strict company now has wrestlers wrestling in AAA Worldwide’s taping on Thursdays and in CMLL in Arena Mexico on Fridays. Moreover, at one point having Pentagon Jr. breaking a tapings record, appearing on Major League Wrestling on BeIN Sports, in AAA Worldwide, CMLL Arena Mexico and in Impact Wrestling on Pop TV in one week.

CMLL is approaching their Aniversario show and LA Park has given them very strong attendance since returning. The Kazuchika Okada move keeps building their hot run in Mexico.
